Pitch tones are not just for hunting iron. They can work well in modern trash too! You just need to use some notches to eliminate unwanted target ranges.

Following along on that Deus2 Dewayne. Appreciate the info your putting out! Sounded sharp on that Barber! Was the Rosie on edge maybe? That was a limited angle/direction you were picking the signal up at. All the best brother!
@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Tim! I think both dimes had some masking, and the Rosie was considerably deeper. Watching closely it does appear to have been on edge when my pinpointer knocked it loose. Another possible factor is that I was using the Fast program in that last clip. It uses a higher weighted frequency set, so it’s geared more toward separation than depth on high conductors. A combination of all of the above probably explains why the signal on that last dime was on the weaker side. ATB!

Hey Kenny. I thought about getting the 11” coil but with this nasty orange Ga clay, coins don’t seem to sink all that deep in most places around here. So I figured I’d just go with the 9 incher to save a little more weight and maybe gain a little better separation.

Great video Dewayne, waiting on my D2. I relic hunt a lot in NC, what’s your thoughts on a good starting program for CW relics? I mainly do woods and fields for my relics. @MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA 2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks Tony. Is there a lot of iron at your relic site? If so, the Fast program might work well for you. Otherwise, possibly the General program. I haven’t used the relic program much myself so I can’t really speak on how it performs but General is good all around. You could lower the reactivity a bit to gain more depth if it’s cleaner ground. Hope your D2 arrives soon!

Love your videos. Need a program for hunting silver in a old park that has lots of iron and modern trash. Want to try fast with pitch. If you was going to only hunt for silver close to iron how would you setup your Deus to hunt a site like that. Some silvers maybe deep. Thanks
@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, I actually tried two programs today doing exactly what you described. Detecting silver range only at an old park. The first one I tried was based on Deep HC set up in pitch tones. I just used a single notch from 0-88. It was a bit unstable at the park I was hunting. Lots of EMI. So then I set up a program based off of General which uses a spread frequency set of both high and low frequencies. I set the same single notch all the way up to 88. Pitch tones, lowered the reactivity to 2, bottle cap at 4, and sensitivity at 98. It actually ran very stable like this. Seemed to be a happy compromise between depth and speed using the General mode as the base program. I got one signal that was just giving a low grunt on the pitch audio, but it was repeating so I dug it. It was a wheat which was down about the length of my pinpointer. For whatever reason the Deus was up averaging the ID, as it was reading 94. Anyway, I also got some more clad in an area that had lots of little nails. No silver today, but I think this program may work well. Just need to put more time on it.
@kevinmccrory2347
@kevinmccrory2347 2 жыл бұрын
@@MetalDetectingNWGA Do you think all that notch would cause you to miss silver close to iron or beside a lower conductor target? Wouldn’t the iron and low conductors pull the vdi number of a silver down into the notched area?
@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA 2 жыл бұрын
@@kevinmccrory2347 Yes, that is a possibility anytime you use discrimination. Even if you’re only rejecting targets below 50, you could still be missing a coin blended with an iron signal. It’s a trade off between how much junk you’re willing to dig vs good targets dug per time spent detecting. Sometimes it’s just not possible to “dig it all”. Especially on some of the extremely trashy spots. The good news is, the Deus is super fast and can often give a proper audio response on a coin that’s very close to junk targets.

@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul. Man I love my CTX too. I don’t have any plans of getting rid of it any time soon (unless Minelab releases a lighter weight version!). I’ll continue to use my 3030 for cherry picking or selective digging. That’s where it really shines IMHO. For me, the Deus is sort of a specialty machine. I’ll use it for cleaning up the last few finds from heavily hunted sites, relic hunting and hunting where there’s a lot of iron/trash. They each have a place in my Arsenal, so no real intentions of replacing one with the other. It sure is nice to swing this lightweight Deus after lugging around the beefy CTX!

Is your Silver Slayer program also setup with the same pitch tones that will help the types of signals you describe jump out more?
@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA 2 жыл бұрын
Yes sir! I’m a big fan of pitch tones for that very reason. I’ve noticed that coin signals that may sound a little sketchy on other tone profiles tend to really stand out and scream “dig me” when using pitch tones. You do have to listen for the really deep ones, but you can definitely still hear that it sounds like a coin. I like full tones too, but pitch is my favorite.

Nice video. How would you suggest setting up at a TRASHY Ghost Town Site?
@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I've never hunted a ghost town site, but I'd imagine its lots of older iron with less modern trash? If so, the Fast program should work well for that too. Depending on the type of targets you're looking to find, maybe use less discrimination since you shouldn't be dealing with all the modern trash. Lowering the reactivity a bit will get you a little more depth if the iron isn't too dense. The General program may work well too. Good luck!

the only real way to know that a metal detector ,missed a coin is passing the other detector over that same target buried , and thats the only way to do it and to know the truth .
@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA 2 жыл бұрын
I actually agree with that 100%. I've said the same thing myself. The only way to truly know if one detector is faster/deeper/better than another is to test them on the same target, on the same day. I'm not saying that I think the Deus 2 is necessarily hitting targets that other machines won't hit. Other machines have probably sounded off on these targets before but with a very iffy signal. I think this particular audio response (pitch tones) gives a more diggable signal on masked good targets that may sound sketchy on other machines or other audio options. Pitch tones is a very unique type of audio for sure.

Yep, I should've mentioned that I'm using Pitch Square. Its actually the default for the fast program. PWM probably gives a little more nuance, but I just prefer the smoother sound of square. Its pretty easy to tell when you have a coin under the coil with either one. Which forum do you post on? I'm on the Friendly forum and a few others.
