XP15000 : Types of Refillable Cartridges & Resetting

For viewers in North America and some other associated zones, you likely have no options for resetting your chips or using ARC chips due to firmware from Epson America which locks your printer to using only Epson cartridges. We'll be doing a video about potential options specifically to deal with that but for now apologies if you've found our XP-15000 videos and hoped you'd found a solution to the locks Epson have placed on your printers.

The resetter on its own is available at www.octoink.co.uk/pid/828 You can’t use the maintenance box resetter on the refillable cart chips unfortunately.

Hey bro I am converting brand new XP 15000 do I need new empty cartridge to fill with my hiipoo ink? Do I need a new set of empty tanks to do the conversion?

We don't have any experience of converting OEM XP15000 cartridges for refilling so if that's your plan I'm not the person to ask. However this guide shows how to use third party refillable cartridges with compatible chips. Our approach is a little easier to achieve but I believe the North American versions don't allow you to reset the zone specific chips used on N.American models.

How about this 3rd party ink quality? How does it compare to Epson OEM genuine cartridge (ink quality)? Hesitating to buy an XP 15000 +refillable kit or else the more expensive but genuine ink with an Epson ET 15000 or ET 8500. Dilemma!!!

The quality is pretty good, particularly regarding colour vibrancy but it won't match the OEM ink in terms of fade resistance. If you're looking to leverage the best of refilling and inks available then it's worth getting the necessary cartridges and refill tools but source the OEM ET-8500/8550 inks instead and use that as the OEM ink for those two printers is generally regarded to be a pretty good alternative with good fade resistance. It does mean some adjustment for colour variation (ie: custom profiling) but that will provide you with the best of both worlds with a reduced cost.

I see you sell ink on your OctoInkjet website, what cartridges do you recommend, as they are not sold your site. Can you recommend both the auto reset and the manual reset. Also, I'm not sure if your site sells the resetter. Thanks for your helpful videos.

Hi.. My fault, we do have both types of cartridge type with resetter for the non-ARC variant but still have some housekeeping to sort out on the website. Hoping to get that done in the next few days so please check back in a few days. (posted 27/01/24)

We're not as up to speed on American quirks but I believe there are some specific differences for US customers caused by some legal and trade issues that Epson, etc.. have taken advantage of. Might be worth considering the inkchip.net chipless option to disable chips but we've not tried it ourselves so it's very much something you have to decide whether to risk or not.

It’s essential you remove and cap the cartridges to refill them. If you tried to refill while still installed they would just flow out into the printhead and cause numerous problems.

No, you'd need a separate resetter for the cartridges. Worth noting that the North American versions of the XP-15000 may not have compatible resetters available due to the difference in IP (Intellectual Property) laws there and trade restrictions on some Epson related products. I do know that there's a version for the EU version of the XP-15000 cartridges (378/478 chips).
