I’ve just installed my Printer Potty, what a game changer this is! No more saturated waste ink pads, just empty the potty when necessary. I would recommend the use of forceps as described in this video it made it so much easy to connect the tube. I had a blank sheet when I ran the nozzle check so it took me an about 10-12 head cleans to get a proper nozzle check using about half the ink in the cartridges. My Epson PX720WD came up with the waste pads full error during the cleaning runs so I used the included reset code to clear it. All good to go now thanks to the Printer Potty team.

An excellent instruction video that made the replacement of the spent ink pads in my Epson 'Expression' XP-645 a doddle. The video was well presented by somebody who really knew what he was doing. His instructions were very clear and precise. Highly recommended.

Wow. This was amazing!!! Great tutorial. I think this is one of the best tutorials I have ever seen on KZbin. Great video technique and the instructions were very easy to follow. I would never have been able to do this on my own. I looked at several other videos on this topic but none were anywhere close to the quality of this one. Thank You VERY VERY much for this excellent video.

I am sure that it is a pipe dream to post here since this video is a year old: I have a canon MX922 that I just spent money on to buy a new print head. I my printer as it does some any things well but now I got the error code for "saturated pads". ..someone said to me get the counter utility as maybe you can just reset the counter and not even have to change the pads. The pads on the MX922 are really hiddent and one has to almost take the printer apart. I was hoping you would ave some information on where I can get the utility for the MX922? Again it is probably hopeless to send this email so long after the posting of the video :9

Still keeping tabs. Don’t think this is covered by WICReset but a copy of the Canon service app should work. It’s a bit more complicated than just any version though so recommend you dig around printerknowledge.com forums. There’s a fair amount of resources on the subject there.

@@octoinkjet Wow. Thank you so much. Okay so I am pretty technical. I used to be a system administrator in Computer Science before nursing. Do you know where I can find the canon service app. it does not matter as I won't do this until my printer dies. I am already getting warnings about the pads being saturated and at some point I will not be able to print any more (already getting the 1700 error on start up) so when the printer dies I want to try to save it. I hear that after you replace the pads (physically) you might need to change the counter so I am preparing for it. Doe syour wicreset cover the canon MX922 as a printer option in any event.

eBay seems to be the best place to locate them but again PrinterKnowledge.com has a lot of info in various posts if you dig hard enough for them. It's worth registering and posting to ask for help too as the community that still remain will keep an eye out for posts as/when they can. I checked though and the WICReset doesn't cover your model sadly so that's not an option. As for the physical waste ink pads, you may find a teardown/disassembly video on KZbin that might help but it would definitely be an "involved" process so be prepared for that. What some folk have done is reset the waste counter and just put the printer on a lipped tray with a note to not tip the printer when moving as eventually the excess capacity in the pads will be overcome and the printer might leak... although that could take a while.

You need to have a new key each time you need to reset but there’s nothing stopping you resetting again. Only the trial key is limited for obvious reasons.

You need to use Aluminium tape as it has a non-water-soluable adhesive. Normal tapes tend to leak because they are water soluable.

Thanks worked well! Worked well, a bit hard to follow all the complex details. It cost $10 for the rest codes and $14 for the new pads. I guess $24 is a good price. With googles help and Octoinkjets help I am up and running again.

can you replace the IC Chip on the maintenance box (T04D1) and buy a new sponge to reset it or do I need the actual chip resetter?

Yes, you can get replacement chips as well. Bit finicky to get them off and stick them In place but it is possible.

Using alcohol can work but not recommended as it can dry out a clog and make it worse rather than better. You can find a recipe for home brewed cleaning solution if you search using keywords: “Pharmacist printerknowledge printhead cleaning recipe”

Mein Drucker Epson ET-2720 hatte vor 5 Monaten ein volles Tintenkissen gemeldet: "Das Tintenkissen des Druckers ist am Ende seiner Lebenszeit". Nach vorübergehendem WIC Reset (mittels kostenloser WIC Reset Utitiliy aus dem Internet. Die kostenlose Variante setzt aber leider nur auf 80% zurück, ist daher nur eine Not-Lösung für eine gewisse Zeit, bis man einen neuen Tintenkissenbehälter besorgt hat. Jetzt kam das anscheinend endgültige Aus des Epson-Druckers. Zumindest ging gar nichts mehr, er war "tot". Ohne weitere Vorankündigung. Den Epson-Service wollte ich nicht beauftragen, das erscheint mir viel zu aufwändig dafür (Zeit und Geld!). Dank neuer Ersatz-Wartungskassette für EcoTank ET 2720 mit Tintenkissen (gibt's im Internet schon für nur rund EUR 7,00) und der Anleitung hier dauerte die "Reparatur" nur wenige Minuten: Ausbau des vollen Behälters (nur 2 Schrauben und die Klappe hinten am Drucker entfernen) - die Tintenkissen im alten Behälter waren wirklich komplett schwarz und voll! Dann Einbau des neuen Behälters (muss nur eingesetzt / eingeschoben werden, total easy!). Gerät wieder zuschrauben und noch den neuen WIC Reset Key für Epson Geräte eingeben, den man im Internet für ebenfalls rund EUR 7 kaufen kann: Man erhält den Lizenzkey sofort per E-Mail, einfacher geht es nicht. Dann noch nach beigefügter Anleitung die WIC-Reset-Utility für das Betriebssystem (Windows/MAC) installieren, Lizenzkey eingeben, Drucker aus- und wieder einschalten - und er läuft jetzt wieder wie eine Eins! Herzlichen Dank für die tollen Tipps hier auf KZbin!

Sadly no. The Canon printers (aside from a few MegaTank models) are more complex and don't have long waste ink tubes like Epson printers so we've not tackled them. That said there are a few videos on KZbin that cover the process of disassembly to reach the waste pads and waste in tubes. This one is terrifying: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnuUnGONbdR7pLc&ab_channel=VISMASS but does cover most of what you need up to 5:30 (after that it's irrelevant). Once you have access to the waste tubes you can retrofit one of our Printer Potty DIY waste kits or wash out and replace the pads. The former will require a little creative thinking to work out where to drill a hole to allow the waste tube extension to exit the printer but it's doable if you think creatively.

The biggest fail point past the waste ink is the printhead itself. The main issue is that Canon deliberately stop manufacturing printheads within 1-2 years after the model is released and then you're just waiting for the stock to dwindle down to nothing before you're out of luck. So, if you do get the waste ink sorted (particularly if you fit an external waste ink tank) then getting one or two spare printheads might help future proof your investment in time to keep it running for a lot longer.

Worst printer ever!!!!! continously ink problems. Since the first month. It's a shame that they sell something like this. It can not be that after bying a product that you have to do adjustment mechanicly and softwarebased. Just ridiculous!.

If it's of any help, the most common issue with Megatank printers is a poor connection between the printhead lid and the printhead, that allows air to get into the connection point and stop the ink from flowing properly. We found a couple of key things that helped reduce the likelihood of this: 1. Make sure that the printheads have been inserted and seated properly in the printhead carriage. 2. Make sure you remove the orange label from the top of the printhead 3. Make sure the top of the printhead was clean and that there was no dust or other debris, particularly around the little recessed nipple that accepts ink into the printhead All of that said, while we appreciate that it's frustrating to have problems with a printer, especially one that's just a month old, we didn't design the printer, nor are we responsible for your problems. So please don't make disparaging comments about a video that's trying to help end-users solve a problem that the manufacturers have no intention of solving themselves. You're aiming at the wrong target.

The quality of your videos are good and I even gave it a "like". And secondly, you are right about the flexible pipes that extract air after a while. It is difficult for a layman to understand what you mean with text (as mentioned above). But if it is audiovisual, it can also be better understood and applied. You could perhaps make a video of that. And if that exists, I would like to receive a link to it. And thirdly, I have ordered a kit with a key: G5 Printer Potty Waste Ink Kit for Canon Megatank. For the Canon G5050 So again, that was not an attack on you but on the product. Keep continue making good vids. I wish you a happy holiday season. (Christmas and New Year)

Thanks for the clarification... With respect it's a bit difficult not to feel that a rant on a video thread isn't somewhat aimed at the creator but I can certainly understand the frustration and appreciate the redirect on where and who it was actually directed at. As to your suggestion, there is a video in the works regarding MegaTank printers (and another for Epson Ecotanks) that will deal with troubleshooting common issues, particularly regarding the dreaded "air in the tubes" issue but I'm still not happy with it just yet. Thanks for the order and trust you and yours have had a good holiday too. Although I think some of us could do with a repeat.

If it's the design I'm thinking of, you have a fill hole and a vent hole. The latter allows air into the cartridge as ink is used up. If you didn't have an open vent the cartridge would not feed more ink as the air can't get in to replace it.

Thanks for the video. I am trying to read and reset my ET-4800 printer waste counter. I keep receiving an error "query has been rejected by the device. Current device specifications are broken, incorrect or out of date. Please try to update application to the most recent version first. Otherwise, report to us all available information about this issue." Is there a more up to date version of the software?

Few thing you can try that should help: 1. Use a USB cable connection to the printer (WIFI connection is blocked by some firmware updates) 2. Download and install the driver for your printer and operating system and install that (Make sure you disable the status monitor as per: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGPKZmdtnZuloKc ) 3. Temporarily disable anti-virus, particularly if you have McAfee, Norton, etc... As they can block the connection 4. Try a different USB cable (sometimes they can suffer from poor connection) and/or connect to a different USB socket on your computer 5 Try rebooting your computer and printer then trying again before you run anything else. Let me know how you get on either way...

In fairness to Canon (and Epson) they do now have a lot more printers that have chipped maintenance tanks/cartridges rather than static waste pad holders and a need for third party apps to reset the internal waste ink counter. Unfortunately it's not 100% and they've made no effort to retroactively support end-users to do it themselves, even if it was only with software tools.

I saw a random reddit comment that suggested disconnecting the write enable pin of the eeprom after resetting the wic counter, so that the wic counter will be stuck at 0 permanently.

Thanks for this! I was throwing ink to my old printer and didn't even realize I could remove the print head. Do you have any videos with tips from cleaning the tray where the head is parked? It looks a bit messy on that side and in my case with MP620, its a bit hard to access.

What would indicate the printhead has failed after cleaning rather than a failed clean? My Canon printhead ink channels seemed to clean ok and when pressed on the paper towel as you demonstrated, the fluid bubbled up. After installing the ink cartridges into the printhead, ink appears for all channels if pressed onto a paper towel. However, when trying to perform a print (head alignment for example) only two colours appear so I'm wondering if the printhead now needs replacing.

Try the nozzle check first and see if anything is missing there. And run a printhead clean routine through the printer’s maintenance function then another nozzle check in case the head needs to be primed. It may well be that the head has damaged nozzles though so keep that in mind

If you experience communication errors or do not see your printer, please, try the following: - Restart the printer and PC. Make sure that USB/Wi-Fi connection is of the good quality. Try to change USB cable and port if applicable. - Cancel all printer jobs and disable all applications and services that can communicate with the printer. Query has been rejected by the device. - Current device specifications are broken, incorrect or out of date. - Please, try to update application to the most recent version first. - Otherwise, report to us all available information about this issue.

Respectfully I believe a more appropriate question would be "Why did printer manufacturers not make a tool like WICReset readily available themselves?" Third party developers saw a need and created something that addresses that need. In doing so they've likely help keep hundreds of thousands of printers working well past an argueably artificial limit. I understand your frustration completely but I really do think your ire is misdirected if you think that third parties are the problem.

Best way to check if it's a waste ink error is to use the WICReset app to "read waste counters". Doesn't cost anything to do this but will confirm if the waste ink is an issue. Search this channel for the keyword "WICReset" for videos on how to download and use the app (you don't need a key to read the counter).

The reset key is used to reset the waste ink counter, in the printer, back to zero. That in turn clears the waste ink pad error. The printer doesn't have a sensor that detects how full the waste pads are but instead calculates how much waste has been dumped into the pads and guesses when they're likely to be full.
