Hey, if you want to do the sightseeing and see what Munnar has to offer, I don't think commute can be avoided. Given the way we have divided the zones, you can choose for yourself which zone do you want to skip entirely or partly. But in any case if you would want to visit multiple zones then booking your stay at the junction (aka Munnar) would be the best but you won't have the best views necessarily. So, you really will have to decide which you are willing to give up on or what is there in your itinerary.

As long as you do not a mind a bit of rain, yes you can. Water bodies will be in full flow and the hills will be lush green. Do make sure to check the weather closer to date and avoid visiting during excessive rains.
