Thank you I'm experiencing the slipping or popping in the 5th cog mainly

Is that your "go to" gear? My common moderate riding mode is PAS3 at 5th gear...that's why mine got worn.

Bought a used XP premium with 20 miles on it. I put a few hundred miles on it and It started skipping on 5th gear. I messed with it but could never get it adjusted. Took it to the shop and they diagnosed a bent derailer. I had them replace it and installed a Freewheel 7 Speeds 11-28/11-34T Teeth EPOCH off Amazon. I usually ride in 5th gear. Seems to have cured the problem. 650 miles on it now.

Nice! Only advice is to lubricate the chain regularily. Happy riding!

You might consider change the front gear, so that you can get a higher speed while pedaling slower. So if you have 40 teeth, and change to a 44 tooth, you can go about 10% faster for a given number of turns of the front pedals. I would probably change from 40 to 48, if that is possible. It might require installing 4 more links in the chain length. Or you might get lucky and use the same chain length. If you avoid using the largest sprockets front and rear, the stock length will be fine, just shift to the smaller front when you want to use 1st gear on the back. With only 11 chain gears on the back hub, the amount of metal between each gear is to small. Thus it will pop off and skip to the next space.

Agree but I would have to take a closer look on how the front gear is mounted. I think on the 2.0, I think the gear and the crank is a "one-piece".

@brianbarney1885 Жыл бұрын
If the front shaft is a standard the whole crank can be replaced which can be totally customized; arm length, sprocket size, etc.

Big fan of your vids. Replaced my XPremium freewheel with the "Drift Maniac" 11-28T. Resized (shortened) chain per Park Tool vid, and adjusted derailleur "b tension". Absolutely no problems; no skipping. I use the 28T to get started all the time versus hardly ever using the original lowest gear. (If I ever run out of power I will be missing that old gear.).

FYI-If you use the word "cassette" you can find it. I searched "7 speed cassette 12-32," there were 4 in the first row. Thanks for the great information and tips you provide.

OK, but be careful when buying because a cassette is not the same as a freewheel. They use different hubs. I know advertiser get it mixed up so just make sure return is available. Happy riding!

Great infos on mid drive experience, is this only seen in XPremium or common to other mid drive bikes also ? I have a XP 2.0 , with a 11-32 freewheel, put in 400+ miles, so far , no issue.
@tai.randomthings
@tai.randomthings Жыл бұрын
This is more of a mid drive (XPremium) issue because it uses the chain to transfer power to the wheels through the gears. The XP 2.0 can run (throttle only) without the chain so when you are riding it, it doesn't put the wear and tear on the gears. On a hub drive, if you are using a lot of torque by climbing or riding fast all the time, instead of snapping a chain, you can snap spokes. Thanks for your kind comment and happy riding!

I've watched parts 1 thru 3, part 2 twice; however, I wish that you would have experimented more with the 11-34 freewheel. Are we doomed to have to depend on Lectric to always provide a freewheel in the future? I do not yet own the XPremium but now maybe I will buy something else because of the lack of available freewheel options.
@tai.randomthings
@tai.randomthings Жыл бұрын
you do bring up a good point. I have had heard from others on the XPremium blog group that they gotten the 11/34 to work by shortening the chain. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to do that but still have the freewheel and maybe I will do more tinkering. Sorry.

You changed your chain at 0.75% wear which by then wore down the rear gears. Are you planning to change it earlier next time between 0.5 and 0.75%?
@tai.randomthings
@tai.randomthings Жыл бұрын
I am at .5 right now and it's already damaging the gear, although the skipping is not as bad as I am more careful about ramping up. I've email Lectric and they covered it again!!! Great customer service.

@@tai.randomthings Thanks for sharing! I'll keep a close eye on mine then. At almost 500 miles/6months my chain is less than 0.75% but will check again when I get the 0.5/0.75 gauge. Chain swap looks to be at least an order of magnitude effort less than swapping out the freewheel.

Different free wheels have slightly different tolerance, your experience of poping in the 11-tooth cog maybe because of that. the solution is full deraileur adjustment which may solve the problem.
@tai.randomthings

Agree, also another rider was experiencing the same and they said they shortened the chain and then it went away. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to finish. Happy riding!

In my opinion, Lectric makes the best folding ebike for the cost. However, to better answer your question, I would need to better understand what you are looking for. For starters, do you need a "folding" bike? What type of terrain do you plan on riding on? How far do you need to go on a single charge? All those issues should be considered. Happy riding!

How do you replace the brake pads.
@tai.randomthings
@tai.randomthings Жыл бұрын
I have purchased the pads but unfortuately, I have been sidelined (no lifting) for a couple of weeks so have not had a chance to do the video. But from what I can tell, it should be pretty straight forward (famous last words).

my biggest fear is the mid drive. how would you go about repairing something like that? do those internal gears wear out? or is it a sealed system?
@tai.randomthings
@tai.randomthings Жыл бұрын
I have not tried to open the mid drive motor casing. I have 3 different mid drive bikes and all with over 1000 miles on each and haven't had a problem yet with the motor itself. The motor seems very robust but I can certainly understand your concern. I think if you have a defective mid drive, it will manifest early in the ownership, still within warranty.

You ever heard of a clutch derailleur? Supposedly keeps more tension on the chain. Look it up. Would love your thoughts
