The pop stars themselves aren't paid much unless they become very popular, most don't. They essentially give up their childhoods, teenage years, and adulthood to try and become famous because Korean society is very superficial. They aren't allowed to have romantic relationships and if they do have one it has to be kept a secret. They also have to maintain their image at all times because Kpop fans will ravage them if their perceived image of their star is tarnished. This isn't limited to KPOP either, it happens with JPOP also since Japanese society suffers from some of the same problems as Korean society. Failed JPOP stars often become porn actresses and child pop-idols are often groomed for the adult industry too. Honestly, I hate both JPOP and KPOP because it's the worst parts of celebrity worship in it's most gaudy and fake form.
