@@Usernameunknown129 you do know there is a very good reason why attempted murder carries a lesser sentence than murder right? By having that, it provides an incentive for a person who is in the process of murder to stop it. If you had the same sentence, then that incentive is removed, since if you’ll get the same sentence anyways there is no point stopping.

I just let others live there life now because speaking up about it just brings more problems into your own life and never helps them anyways, because they choose to be ignorant. 40:00 this speech from Mike was so damn perfect. it's a big part of the reason she was eventually found guilty
@FilthTribeFTP
@FilthTribeFTP 2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure she was ALREADY found guilty by the jury, the judge "finding" her guilty, was basically him just affirming the jury's verdict, because while super rare, a judge can sometimes overrule a verdict in certain cases.... Mike was giving an impact statement which is done after jury's verdict, which means it plays a HUGE part in the judges decision on sentencing and how much time to give her. Had he gone to bat for her, for some weird reason, the judge could've possibly given her a lesser sentence, but it's not always guaranteed. People have all sorts of varying character witnesses come up to speak on their behalf before sentencing, to try and obtain a more favorable sentencing form the judge. Pastors, public figures, and basically anybody who's word may mean even a little something to the judge. Church leaders are always a favorite, lol. Pretty much anyone except their old drinking buddies or crime partners, hahaha.

Just an aside, the reason at 22:42 they ask if she's been advised is part of Miranda law, it keeps the person mirandized without having to re-read the rights and get her confirmation on all of them over again, particularly when the accused gets a complete reset, going back to their cell and returning later. If it isn't done statements could get tossed. They end up having to re-read them anyway because she claims she just said yes to everything / didn't understand (which wouldn't hold up, but they tend err on the side of caution in situations like this)

16 years as a number might seem lenient but it's actually quite brutal. You should realise that when she is released, she is 50 years old. Imagine what that does to ones financials. If she wants to retire at the age of 65 and guessing retirement will be atleast 20 years, she needs to somehow make up for lost time. The house is also more of a burden since it keep accruing expenses to upkeep and on its own isn't a retirement plan. So... unless she somehow wins a lottery, she will live the rest of his life in poverty, alone (no one will date a 50 year old chick with such a background).

For anyone interested, the first trial got chucked out because: "According to the July 2014 ruling, Dippolito argued that the trial court “erred by denying her request to individually question prospective jurors about their exposure to pretrial publicity about her case and by denying her request to strike the entire jury venire after all the jurors heard an allegation that appellant had attempted to poison the victim in this case.” The second trial actually got declared a MISTRIAL "Dippolito gave no visible response when Circuit Judge Glenn Kelley declared a mistrial after the four-woman, two-man jury said it was hopelessly deadlocked after nine hours of deliberations spread over two days. Kelley said the jury was deadlocked 3-3. He made the announcement after the jurors handed back verdict forms showing how they would have voted. After the jury left, a weeping Dippolito hugged her attorneys and her mother." And then on a final third trial, she got convicted. Wild that the jury was deadlocked.
