Destiny 2 Player here, and got top 100 Hardcore Lv 100 at D4 release, I know very well how Paul Tassi usually plays his destiny 2 and other RPG/ARPGS game, he is looking at Diablo 4 seasonal mechanic from the eyes of the Destiny2 Seasonal system. It would be, but the addition of respecs and potentionaly loadouts renders this not viable. When you make a build and you figure out that its not good or you dont like it, the season would gave a reason to make a new character. If there is free respec or even loadout you will just change the skills and play defferent maxed out character, meaning if you try out all the classes there is nothing new unless added. Not sure about D2 but from Poe viewpoint, Its not easy to respec, so you make a new character "oh no i hate making new characters just because i messed up!" " dont you worry there is new content if you do!" "yaay". Perfect loadout game is GW2 in my opinion. But that game has the top notch horizontal progression and there is so much conent that you cna say yup, I ll never do this, and you ll meet ppl that would enver do the content you are doing and you all would have a great time with the same characters from the start.

@JimmyTheAI Жыл бұрын
@@jun3078 Might be, but you essentialy gonna farm 300+ hours to get the same stuff (I play rapidfire build i saved all the best rolls of every other aspect and top rolls for different builds if i ever wanted to swap) You min max your build, lets say defeat lilith 1/3 into the season, are you gonna start a new char or put down the gear to stash, and try to whip up new build with the leftover gear and min max that build. At least i usualy do that. And if they were to give me loadouts, i would made it into loudaout, because it makes sense and sooner or later i would have tried everything there is with rogue, and saved the best ones within probably a season. New season rolls in and i have a choice to make, play the rogue again, hoping there will be some changes so its not the same, or try to lvl with the best setup or play a different character. And then the next season and so on. So as you said I actually kept all the gear and i can swap easily but now in season 3 I have 3 rogues in eternal realm that are basically the same. Thats why i always defended higher respec costs, that way those 3 would be quite unique now the only difference is minor 1% stat changes on gear. So yes its exciting to do a few times but also very exhausting and i dare to say boring after you did all the classes by season 5.

Tassi is a veteran Destiny 2 player. He's looking at Diablo 4 seasons through a Destiny 2 lense. In Destiny 2 your character just rolls over into season after season. You dont have to re level or anything. You get your loot in Destiny 2 and then wait for the next season to do the new content and grind for the new loot. So he's hoping Diablo 4 adopts the same seasonal model. He's experiencing growing pains.....He wants to have his powerful character that he's leveled up be relevant and then just have seasons be mini expansions that add to the story to jump into every time a new season comes out. People are unhappy with seasons because this game is full of a bunch of different content that is only fun once and they don't wanna do it again. I love D2 seasons because I can pick up a character and get to end-game farming relatively quickly, my character will have spots to farm solo and spots to farm in a group. The path to my endgame farming is quick and fun and most of my time is spent doing the things I want to do in an arpg, trying out new builds and farming. Seasonal content in D4 is making me nervous as I just finished doing a bunch of busy work on my eternal realm character and have no desire to do it again on a new seasonal character. I'll give the season a shot, as I do wanna see what sort of content they give us but have very low expectations.

I really understand what is the appeal of the game for him. It's the same for me. That is why I don't usually play seasons, or if I ever fall out of a season after it finishes I just don't give a shit. No need to change the game, just change how you experience it. Also, for most people who don't get into build guides the game is going to take long enough to master with any class that the whole point of dismissing seasons becomes moot. Afterall, you don't need to play seasons, and they're there to ADD content to the game.
@immatoll4375 Жыл бұрын
I mean he is not completely wrong. Currently Diablo 4 early game is not that much fun to "level again" in my opinion because World Tier 1-3 are absolutely waste of time once you "experienced the journey before season". The leveling phase is absolutely not fun, because most classes have bad ressource management early game (e.g. Barb) and are just not fun to play. This is even more worse when you have no additional skillpoints from reknown early or paragon at 50 or "required" aspects you only get in +45 dungeons. Currently I just do not want to do all that shit again even if we have lilith satues and the open map. It just feels like assasins creed bullshit. May they should put the Paragon Points in Step 4 at least. Also I do not think that quin is that right with the journey, because there is no real journey in D4 compared to something like PoE or Last Epoch: You never find a good item or unique before Level 50 that you may wear till level 60+ like in other ARPGs. NEVER. You swap into WT3 to get sacred gear or WT4 to get ancestral gear. The issue here is that if you go into WT4 early and get your first weapon on Level 60 you damage almost doubles. So what will be the season future? You will try to skip Tier 1-3 because you can not find any endgame gear before it. That is the reality. And if you start 1-2 days later you just ask a friend if he can pushes you to 50-60 within 2-3 hours. Conclusion: The leveling journey for skillpoints is almost no fun, because you never feel really strong while leveling as in PoE or Last Epoch. You are never excited for any special gear because you wont use any "uniques" (or aspects) with good rolls while leveling. The skilltree of most classes is pretty linear and boring - also the impact of passives is so irrelevant (e.g. 10% damage increase for 3-4 points / levels while leveling feels like nothing but can be a strong multiplicator in endgame).

I don't think it's the time investment that's chiefly responsible for some player's aversion to starting over with a new season. I think these players actually don't enjoy the core gameplay that much, so their primary motivator is the desire to achieve the end goal; in this case, a maxed out character. If the end goal was locked behind a 200 hour journey that was an absolute blast, I don't think they'd turn up their noses at the prospect of starting over.
@demonseed360 Жыл бұрын
This is the correct answer. From my observations, it seems like the big task or goal for these guys in the current version of the game is to max out a character. You do that once and of course, it gets old fast. I play PoE and my goal is never simply to "level a witch to max," for example. I try out different builds. The fun for me comes from the journey of making a build. And PoE's possibilities are endless when it comes to that kind of content. So I have no problem making new characters over and over again, because I know that my experiences will be different and I'll always have a new goal to look forward to. Combine that with huge balance changes and tons of new systems, skills, season-specific bosses and items, aspirational content, etc. When done well, seasons are the lifeblood of an ARPG, refreshing the game every few months and keeping veterans returning. The guy in the video seems to be looking at Diablo 4 like an MMORPG, in which players sit on level 100 characters, waiting for new content to steamroll every now and then.

I think this guy and Lirik have a point. The biggest problem I see is that this game is not like D3 or PoE, the MMO aspect it goes for makes it less replayable than those games, where progression is intended to be fast, but its also not entirely on the MMO side like Lost Ark is. The fact that you can skip the story is problematic to the extent that it deprives D4 of what little content variation there is for its seasons - at least compared to PoE. I may be wrong about this but I don't think PoE would be as compelling as it is if you could just skip to maps every new season for various reasons. On the other hand, replaying Lost Ark from scratch would be insanely boring, and that game obviously has skips for alts, and it does not have seasonal resets like D4 does. The point is that D4 occupies that uncomfortable middle ground where it neither has enough MMO-like content to keep it entertaining, whilst having a story and systems that are too mmo-like (altars and whole renown system in general) to be replayed every season. I don't think there is a satisfying fix for this, the problem is at the core of the design philosophy, and my prediction is that the game will fail to keep a significant seasonal audience as a result.

All my friends are asking the same thing that paul is saying. They aren't Diablo or PoE players but they started playing D4. They levelled a char and they know about the coming seasons but when they heard they had to make new characters every season, they weren't too stoked about it. The problem here is not the new character needing to be made but the really bad levelling experiences outside of the campaign and the insane level/paragon grind after 50 or even 70. As a long term PoE and D3 player, I don't mind this at all, but as a solo D4 player, I don't like the grind one bit. Too much time is needed to get anywhere in the game now that everything is either nerfed or toned down so much it's bad for solo players.
@DLJPal Жыл бұрын
for this they are going to update Nightmare dungeons to have a instant TP so you don't need to travel to each one. However i agree that if renown got completely reset, it would definitely be a nuisance! I've also struggled with the Solo grind experience and playing purely barbarian, my friend kept talking about it like, they loved using WW, but had to default to Hota to beat any significant event. when I'm just over here using rend and taking time to kill anything big xD. The grind sucks, the prospect of grinding from 1-?? + renown + bumping up each WT seems extremely tedious to me Dx

@KonjouS Жыл бұрын
I think the biggest factor is the d4 has little variability to make that progression through "acts" as interesting as something like POE. Everytime i play a build in POE its a new skill each time, built with uniques that i dont always use and so on. The economy also adds another layer of replayability in which a fresh start gives you that opportunity to get "rich" early. And i play multiple toons per league. D4 allows you to try every skill for a class in a single playthrough and switch between them with little to no gear changes or cost. Unless they are adding a bunch of new skills for each class, new world activities and seasonal content that enables new activities poe which is in every zone, your playthrough is gonna feel pretty close to eternal until you get to the new endgame dungeon or wtv they decide to add.
@KonjouS Жыл бұрын
@@darkbrandonn1313 sorry maybe variability might not be the word. What I mean is that I play a different build to league start every league in POE, in d4 you would likely try different skills available to that class and switch depending on whichever aspect you drop. So there's not really an incentive to play barb two times in a row considering you probably switched through all the skills in your first playthrough. This is of course only my opinion because I know POE players who play RF every league or Boneshatter every league. Also drops in POE acts do matter more than you claim because base types matter and ilvl matters when you craft. I don't like to die so every so often I do upgrade my defences in acts( simple essence or alch slam + crafting bench) . Leveling uniques still get the most advanced players hyped if their dropped in acts at league start. Oh my fastest act 1 -10 was 5hrs 30 at league start but average around 6-7 hours LS.

(as commented on Zizarans vid.) I've played a lot - of games in basically every other genre. I think the core issue here is actually that WHILE playing the game you want to keep building on your work. It is like if in Minecraft, or Sons of the Forest, or frankly most games where you build something it is suddenly removed by someone else then you - or - almost as bad - the game's new content enforces you to restart, essentially removing your content or at least a huge chunk of it. If you build a character, or whatever - most would naturally want to keep on building without redoing any crumble of it - this is the fantasy most games building something holds on to - building to the infinity - unless that is what you set off to do - like replaying a campaign on ur fav. games.

The only reason season 1 might bring decent content is because its the common scummy practice nowadays to carve out things that could/should have been there on release since they were part of past titles, but now they can reintroduce it as 'new' content. Outside of that its very difficult for any game to have the kind of cadence and impact that PoE leagues do because most games aren't bottom-up designed like PoE is. For example, in D4 the devs can't simply add new skills to the game. They'd need to add items, aspects, paragon boards, glyphs, update the itemization, and integrate it into the skill tree just to give any new skill the same level of augmentation others have in the game. PoE devs can literally just drop a new skill in the game and be done because it automatically inherit all augmentation from supports, items, and passives from the classification tag system.

Also, I think a lot of people like the idea of having that one game they play 365 days a year and diablo is best enjoyed played seasonally. Grind out the season on as many toons as you want, then put it away for next season. Dont get attached to the loot, because it doesn't really matter. It doesn’t feel like a character developed journey. It feels like a state of reset, where to enjoy the new content I’d have to create and start over just to enjoy it. Doesn’t sound like it respects players time. Please correct me/enlighten me to something I’m missing. Cheers.

i want paragon levels like in D3 because why would i level a seasonal? there are no sets, there are no pets, no stash space to get all the items you get from the other character. no wings, just a big grind. why would i then have 2 druids and no stash space. what i know is they gotta do something.
@TheNightmareTroll Жыл бұрын
there’s also no cow level yet, no rainbow goblin land, no cube, can’t re-kill bosses like in D2 or D3 nothing special to do. don’t get me wrong i love the game the thing is that it looks like it might not work out good for season. and if they don’t do it right it will be a hot mess.

Think we all got use to playing D3 endgame for so many years, getting boosted to 70 in 5 seconds, trying multiple builds, no sense of character identity, feels like once I got my Necro through campaign I immediately started back on the D3 mindset for alts, just wanted to boost, started complaining about inventory specially as a massive hoarder, and all of the QoL D3 has, as far as loadouts and bank space and the free respecing goes, but I get Quin's points too, I need to get out of that mindset lol.
@circaen Жыл бұрын
I'm so glad Quin hated this shit for me. I really can not stand when people dislike the entire point of something & want to change it. The seasons are made so that you have a reason to level a new character & this dude is like "I don't want to level a new character, I should be able to play with my level 70" Literally enraged me... hahahaha And the load outs will actually give less of a reason to level new characters in the future so it makes sense he is keen on that. I'll even say, I think the Devs caved on the renown thing way too quickly. Starting out with 5-10 skill points really cheapens the start of a new character. I don't mind it for alts in a season but I started a Hardcore character & the renown did not carry over. Without the story to worry about - I found the renown a great way to lead my character through leveling. I enjoyed the extra challenge of not starting out with 10 Skill points letting me blast to level 25 with very little thought. I think they should have just added more ways to get renown in season, so people could gain it the way they want.

Right? I'm playing a rogue now, aiming to get to 100 before the season, but I plan on playing a druid come season 1. The seasons, like with D3 and D2R, give me a chance to play different characters that might have had a change to their playstyle by getting a buff to a certain build. If you want to play your current character, just keep playing that character and don't play the season. No one is forcing you to play it.

Ok then no one will play d4 just like d3 trash if you think everything needs to stay as it was without innovations , d4 should have taken lost ark way and it would be 100 times better for majority of blizz playerbase

MMO gamers are applying the MMO mindset to this game because they associate it with a traditional MMO when it is not one. The progression in MMO's like WOW and Destiny is actually kind of similar in a lot of ways to Diablo but in WOW/Destiny/other MMO's the devs need to artificially timegate any sources of good gear to stop people from getting BIS in a week and then getting bored and quitting. Diablo does not artificially timegate progression so seasons are it's way of solving this same problem. Seasons add longevity to the game. If they didn't exist, the devs would have to design another system to keep players around that most likely would result in something like nightmare dungeons having a lockout and gating the best gear behind them which would feel even worse than relevelling a character. Seasons are the best way forward for this style of game.

D3 seasons everyone was max level the first few days so really, I kinda get Tassi’s point. It feels pointless to force players to restart. This really feels like a “well it’s always been this way so let’s just do it” scenario. We need some innovation to this system.

It's not just your level, it's the gear progression.

By reading the comments I can see there are quite a few people who have no idea how Diablo or poe season/leagues worked for the past 9 or 10 years. If you don't want a seasonal reset stick to non season. Nobody is forced to start fresh. And only speak for yourself if you don't like it.

@@danielcraciun4106 Research the game you want to buy before you buy it. Do not impulse buy because you thought a game's CGI trailer looked cool. Also depends on the game. I absolutely do not experience all of the content in all games. Games are not perfect, I can consider if part of it worth the money and play that instead. Maybe I like Witcher 3, but I don't like chasing every worthless collectible on the map. Maybe I bought Total War Warhammer 3, poured 1000 hours into it and didn't play Bretonnia once because it's too cavalry intensive and I hate microing so much. Maybe I bought Guild Wars 2, and don't like PvP. Am I forced to PvP just because otherwise it means I've wasted my money? How is this a "stupid take? Literally sunken cost fallacy.
