I'd heard about the counter sprocket issues due to narrow sprocket when I purchased the XRL new, so I bought a Fritzco from the start. Years later, when I removed the old chain I noticed quite a bit of free-play with this sprocket. So, doing a little research I came across the KKBike and decided to give this sprocket a go. Shipping: I'm a ways off the beaten path and I received the KKBike sprocket in only four days! Quality: Splines were nice and tight! Even had to tap the sprocket a bit with a rubber mallet. Absolutely no slack! I compared the alignment and slack with the factory, Fritzco, and PBR models. The KKBike sprocket was better in every aspect. I'm impressed!

I use the KK sprocket. It last very long and no issues with spline wear

I made one 3 years ago from other wide fitting sprockets, what uses the whole shaftlength. At last i glued the sprocket with Loctide-red and clean metallpowder . It needs no securing , because due to the broad size it cannot run of the shaft anyway, when it should become losse. Not moveing since than. When the sproket is worn off, i simply cut it with an anglegrinder from two sides and knock it off.

The cure is greasing splines with a good moly grease twice a year. Minimize metal to metal contact. I've got an '88 XR600 dual-sport with old style 6 spline countershaft is like new. Save your "fritzco" money. Grease is cheaper. My thoughts.

What is the best moly paste now that Honda moly 60 is no more?

I don't think its as big a problem as people think it is and wonder if installing a really high horsepower chain that is less elastic and less able to absorb the power pulses from the engine contributes to the problem

I really would want to know which one you chose to go with, I to am in the same countershaft wear problems too. Not knowing is my biggest dear next to a total and complete breakdown of the casing for repairs which I'm trying to avoid. I learned a lot from watching your video though, thanks for making it and hope to see more cause I'm a XR650L owner that needs all the advise I can get

Why didn’t Honda fix this after all these years. The answer is in the inventory already. It’s a xr600r OEM sprocket put on inside out. I know this because I have experienced it myself. Owners should not have had these problems with the counter shaft in the first place. After the fix the sprocket wares out along with the chain. Not the countershaft.
