That was a really gr8 summary of what XR is about. Roger Hallam has a really good way of getting things across to many different generations, he is neither trying to be down with the kids nor is he all full of rhetoric, blinding ppl with science or talking down to ppl. He has really got a happy medium which is why XR is drawing so many people in from all walks of life. His talks and videos really explain what non-violent civil disobedience is all about. Plus why it works. So if you are humming and haring about whether to sign up, please do it. We need as many people who really care about what is happening to the planet at the moment and how it is going to affect every living thing. The next Mass Extinction is just around the corner you don't even need to know the science, the effects are happening in front of us, ie: the sea levels rising so much that a number of the Solomon Islands have vanished beneath the sea. Join us, join the most important thing that is going to happen to us all can only be changed by doing what Roger has said. #XR #Rebel4Life

The trouble with violent young men appearing during any protest, everyone suspects they were never interested in the cause in the first place, just the chance of a fight with police and the usual bonus of looting shops (thus adding to the environmental impact). Governments everywhere 'know' these men are purely self-interested and one hint of violence will give them instant license to use retaliatory action, no matter who gets caught up in the crossfire. While these protests remain in the hands of the schoolchildren, mums with pushchairs, the elderly, and vulnerable groups, they will be truly effective towards the cause, devastating to business, and embarrassing for the government. (It's easy to cause utter chaos in London with a protest, a street carnival, or just something unexpected and surprisingly minor. That chaos lasts hours too. I've seen it happen when a family of ducklings was escorted across The Mall to St James's Park. The knock-on effect so affected Central London it was reported on the traffic news. It's the 'butterfly effect' in action I guess. Perhaps this is the butterfly effect for the benefit of the real things?)

Worse, the government pay these young men to make an appearance and incite violence. Professional protestors. We need a strategy for dealing with them. Often funded by foreign states' governments and the like. They taint each and every cause. They don't come from inside the movement but outside.

As has been said rebellion week and it is happening in other countries not just the UK. Extinction rebellion are very open about the planning of this event. An internet search will give you information. There may also be a local group near you that you can align with, there are getting more of them all the time. Big event in Bristol 16th and 17th March.
