I truly believe that dark souls is the most depressing game series ever, and that's because it's not dealing with tragedy on the human level but on the cosmic one. It's not the downfall of a character, it's not a tragedy that took place *WITHIN* the world, for the world *ITSELF* is the tragedy. It's hard to realise this during the game because of the nerve-racking difficulty that often makes us forget, but everything that is done throughout our journey is completely meaningless. Even the choice we make in the end about the linking of the fire holds little to no importance. Countless civilizations have risen and fallen, countless times humanity has been tortured by the curse, and we are completely unable to change the fact that it will happen again. The whole world gives off a sense of despair and hopelessness. This is so sad. Alexa, play Sir Alonne's theme
@cunt6578

@RevolutionaryArtilry And this is exactly why I said that dark souls is extremely depressing: it takes into account everything you said about the concept of infinity, and on top of that it adds a heartbreaking factor: undeath. You mentioned that death is the one thing that grants us closure, makes are lives finite and therefore meaningful. Dark souls throws the concept of death out the window. You are forced to suffer. Forced to die until you lose your mind and your body becomes an empty husk -a hollow. Each time you kill the enemies in a level they respawn not only because it's a game mechanic (well duh) but also because they are bound by undeath. You cannot save anyone in dark souls, hence you're not a hero. You're just a struggler that cannot die. You don't push through because something motivates you, but because there's simply nothing else. I guess in the end there's literally nothing happy about this game. The more I think about it the sadder I get 😂

"Proceed, Bearer of the curse. For it is the only choice left to you." This and the way your character's shoulders sag under the unseen weight of the curse is all you need to understand Dark Souls 2. It is a game that is about your personal struggle as one who bears the curse, to find a solution, just as everyone around you is trying to find a way to keep going. Whether you intended to or not, you conveyed that feeling amazingly well. Thank you for this

I find it really interesting how, in Dark Souls 1 and 3, when you walk your character always had his/her head held high. Yet, in Dark Souls 2, your head is not. It's like the character knows how hopeless the task is, yet they're doing it anyway.

Harbinger 3000 It’s because many bosses are just straight up bs. They are artificially difficult and are not very well made compared to those in DS1 and DS3. However Darksouls 2 is the game with the best pvp(if it wasn’t for soul memory and Havel monsters) the best DLCs and overall the most pleasant looking and beautiful game (and the most badass dragon form).

I love how the whole thing manages to carry a weight of sadness that brings so much depression and desolation, such is with the unescapable and inevitable curse. The piano tune spiraling down in time, twisting gravely with the appearance of Nashandra. The storytelling with that Terrence Malick style where voices are like whispers. Further details unnecessary, I absolutely love your work.

What I love most about these short films of yours is how well they capture the atmosphere of the games. The loneliness especially, I think, and the concrete idea that everything has wasted away. Greirat voices the feeling well with a throw-away line of his: "Everyone's dead or hollowed away now." At one point it struck me how sad that was - that Drangleic and Lothric and Lordran may once have been bustling with life and people like our own world, but now everyone is just... dead. All that's left of life are the NPC's that visit Firelink. Barely a dozen living people, and they all die or wither away themselves, eventually. Leaving just you, and whatever's left of the world. You capture that feeling much better than I can put it into words, and I think that's what makes these well and truly special. And, you know, just a funky little thought here, but you ever thought of putting these videos to some Radiohead music?

I always feel like if the game got a Bloodborne level of paint, and simply upgrade the mechanics to DS3 level (faster attacks etc), and fully flesh out open areas (that bloodborne paint) and ds2 would officially be my favourite souls game. @tobynhiatt2381
@tobynhiatt2381 4 жыл бұрын
I always saw it as the first dark souls is like the begininng, or like the first rebellion/revolution of the human race against the gods who were wrong to them and cursed them, it feels much more fantastical and epic in that way. Ds2, on the other hand, as the middle child, is just eery, sad, and depressing, it is the war, a never ending war between humanity and it's curse of the undead, this cycle that never ends, destruction and revolution, over and over again, your journey in ds2 is in all reality..pointless. If you do not link the flame, someone else will, as they have before and will long after. It is definitely the most depressing in the series. Ds3, is absolutely the end, the final installment of a (imho) perfect series. It is about destruction, complete chaos and annihilation of a world. This cycle that so many before have gone through of linking the fire is finally coming to an end. And the world is in complete ruin. The best moment definitely being when you and Gael stand alone among the dust, fighting at the end of time so a little girl can paint a painting. But of course, that is just my take on one of the best game series ever made.

The truly tragic tale of the cycle of not only life, but man itself is conveyed perfectly in this game.. Aldia proves it, making us lament on Gwyns horrendous "Noble" act or prolonging something that was being bent, contorted into an ungodly cycle of artificial life.. ..the age of fire, the first sin, the lie that crumbled the very fabric of man.. this is why I love ds2 the most, it's explanation of the cycle through Aldia isnt just ambiguous to be ambiguous, it's showing that there is no end. We pay for the sins of our fathers, the lie portrayed in fire and "Life".. ..It is truly the one answer to the biggest question of dark souls.. "What does it mean to live?" Well, there is no living. There is but a cycle, and cycles in the cycle of themselves. Lies of life, lies of rebirth and salvation. Gwyns ultimate sin.. After all, as the man who broke out of the wretched cycle says, bearing all forsaken lifehood with his ghastly image.. "NO MATTER HOW EQUISITE.. HOW DELICATE.. A LIE WILL REMAIN A LIE!" I love this game so much, this and demons souls are my top favorites for their lore alone. So much nostalgia, so much understanding in these crestfallen stories of souls.. ..I'll never forget these games

One thing that many people forget or disregard is that every single undead, every mutated monster was once a person. A person with a name, feelings, a family, an identity. Remember those you kill. That is the best way to let them rest.

A great continuation! Despite the environments being often depressing and dead, your cuts and the music really makes it more lively and beautiful. It's like a world in sleep, rather than in death. Great work, it's amazing to see so much passion and creativity in a video!

I’m a Pilgrim of the Dark, jaded by the Chasms found within the Abyss. This however brought a tear to my eye and makes remember why I like Dark Souls so much from 1-3. Parry God thank you. Genuinely this is amazing

Dark Souls 2 embodied what I loved in worlds like the Bhaalspawn Saga and Lovecraft Mythos; as much as I want the hero to save themself and others from literal certain doom, I would find myself loving the story because they simply cannot. It gave you a connection with the characters, especially yours, because they are no longer the detatched, godlike heroes we look up to; they are powerless in the face of fate. They are so very human.

Able to make sense out of Dark Souls 2’s story, that in itself is an accomplishment. Paired with incredible camera work and direction. Sad yet peaceful music all ties it up in that Parry God signature. Amazing and quality work as always. Keep up the great work.

I love this so much. Dark Souls 2 will always hold a special place in my heart as it showed the visceral truth of how the Curse effects the everyday people of this world. The somber music you’ve placed over the production is the melancholic blissful sounds that harken to someone yearning to hold onto a crumbling reality. As they lose themselves all they have left are these flashes of memory and the beautiful sounds of the past. Lucatiel’s story was very apparent and open about this, but the game as a whole serves to convey this message that the world keeps moving, inexorably, towards its own end despite the ambitions of those within it.

Very emotional video! Reminds us of our own frailty, bearers of the curse! I also got more and more emotional as I remembered that I had to kill Vendrick with only 2 souls of giants. That... that was the real sad story here..! haha

Most people say DS2 was the worst souls game. I have equally enjoyed all 3! I put in 75hours into each, and I can't say I prefer one over any of them. However, I think the DS2 Curse video by TheParryGod is the best video on this channel! I've watched through it several times and it gives me chills and nostalgia, based on my playthrough of the game. Keep up the good work!
