Dr. Breen: I have negotiated with an alien force known as the Combine to spare humanity from total annihilation while also making me the supreme leader of Earth. Also Dr. Breen: This story about a lungfish will get my citizens to stop rebelling.
@Jon42702 жыл бұрын
You kind of get the feeling that Breen thinks he's talking to people along in a room with them, and not to people engaged in battle out on the field. The very instinct he decries in a earlier speech would make people deaf to his pleas in this one. Maybe he's hoping to catch people during a lull in the battle or something. This video does a good job to illustrate how out of touch he seems compared to the situation of those on the ground.
@NunofyaFB Жыл бұрын
Breen just really likes palaeontology and wanted an excuse to talk about it
@MisterZimbabwe26 күн бұрын
@@Jon4270On the one hand, the combine absolutely would have exterminated humanity and sucked the planet dry into a dead husk incapable of supporting its native life forms (weirdo inter dimensional aliens from the portal storms notwithstanding). I think he just ended up drinking his own Kool aide at some point. The remainders of Black Mesa were fighting a losing resistance against literally the least of the combines occupying forces (The Overwatch soldiers), the entire North American Continent was just GONE, straight up did not exist in any meaningful sense, and the suppression field meant humanity and probably many other related mammals were doomed to be the last of their kind. On top of what he would know about the true capabilities of the Combine from being their personal liaison. He didn't expect Gordon Freeman to show up again, nor did he know about the interference of the G-Man. As far as Breen knew, the resistance was bleeding out slowly and humanity was doomed in the face of the Combines technological supremecy, so collaboration and the grim future of converting the last remnants of humanity into cyber ethically mutilated, disposable low level muscle for a trans dimensional aliens empire was the only hope anyone had left of survival. Maybe SOME humans like himself might be able to gain a better position within the Combines hierarchy.
