Would love a video on your favorite playbook. Not necessarily the one with the best collection of plays, but the one where the concepts are clearly defined in an easy, digestible way with attention to detail, clear diagrams, etc. For example, I hear many defensive coaches laud Kirby Smart's Georgia playbooks for how well they define their concepts with great diagrams and whatnot.

If I had a guess of his favorite playbook from his videos was the Vikings. He always talks about those playbooks the most fondly

Great vid love this type of X and O stuff. Not sure how feasible it would be but during the season seeing some of these or other concepts run by teams and breaking down the things they do different would be cool

One of my favorite concepts. It was relatively to install in high school as a new coach, we just didn’t get to use it because it’s still hard to run😂

Hey J.T., would love to see you talk about what situations you might anticipate to see certain coverages. Is it certain down and distance, or parts of the field that tend to dictate what coverage you'll see? Or do you just focus on reading how the defense aligns and reacts from snap to snap?

The last play is my favorite, with a slight modification: have H move up to a wing on the RT and run the same route as Z currently is, but have them flair off to a post after getting through the mesh. Have Z run a go route or a DEEP post. Z will be alert and act as a clear for X when they get through the mesh, and F will act as a clear for H on the backside post. Progressions then go right to left x1, f2, h3 with the alert on z. That mesh should create plenty of confusion and we should see open receivers in both man and zone h, zone at h and y, and man at x,h,f, and z.

I run this from gun out of 2x2, I have the Y run a MOR dig route instead of the sit. X has vertical or skinny post and z has skinny post over the dig. The back swings away from the shallow.

JT, with the concept around 13:30 in this video, do you think this can still work with everyone in normal 2x2 "Doubles" splits, or does this play really only work with everyone in reduced splits?

Shallow cross is actually relatively simple to coach at the high school level. I suspect with pros it’s too easy to defend. You obviously know your playbook. You also are an effective communicator. The two don’t always go together. Btw anybody ever tell you how much you look like Kyle?

Ah yes, Andy Reid's staple back in 2004 with the Eagles, when shallow crosses were considered genius back in the day. We've now replaced it wish Mesh, something Coach McKie loves

I think there is no way a non pro QB can execute the read on this old school version. I much prefer the "air raid"-ish version of this play which kind of incorporates the Mills concept on the frontside. Soinstead of the sit in the middle you run a 10-12 yard basic. This way you can read it deep to short over the middle (kind of) which is much easier to do. Backside is just an alert/outlet and not part of the read. Just like it is in madden actually 😅

What about a play action on that shallow cross. Obv depends on a lot of factors.

I know you don’t like this concept that much. Why not have the post run a 15 yd comeback and the curl run a Post. Then you read would be shallow, ball out, come back, and post as an alert your eyes stay on one side of the field.
@TheQBSchool

I like better for sure. Just hard imo to hit comebacks #3 for most non pro Qs. Even pros struggle with that down field and outside #3 but I like the thought and flow of it better.
