Here is the final video showing viewers how to wire up a points motor with a tci combo regulator rectifier. It's really simple and I tried to make my video very straight forward an as detailed as possible in a 1o minute window. this is the best video ive seen and about the only one that gits to the point. ive been haveing chargeing problems since my build. the only problem actualyandbeen rideing a year now and still aint figured out why it wont charge and i believe this vidio is theanswerer to my prayers. i got one question tho.... Why do you ungrouynd the stater roter assenbly at the begining of the video wt the special screws ????

i had major problems with my chargeing system on my build and hadto keep my bike on a charger daily and never ride at night for a year and oeday i finally figuredout why it wouldnt charge after spending hundreds replaceing every single part in the system and no thats not what fixed it..... YOUR VIDEO WAS THE SINGLE KEY AND I WANT TO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR KICKIN THE KNOWLAGE... THIS VIDEO IS THE ONLY VIDEO WORTH WATCHING FOR ANYBODY WHO DONE THEIR OWN CUSTOM BUILD FAR AS THE CHARGEING SYSTEM GOES... I do have one question tho, why unground the brushes by changeing the screw in the stater rotor assembly ?

Because your turning the rotor into a magnet using 12v and the brushes are carrying the 12v to the rotors. The brushes can't carry voltage if they are grounded. Your basically turning the alternator into a permanent magnet alternator but it's not permanent because it requirers 12v of ⚡. You could carry around a 12v cordless drill battery in your pocket and connect to the brushes then it would run with a "battery eleminator" like everyone wants on there chopper

Great informative video. What year is this bike? I have a 75 xs650 and recently bought a rec/reg from Ricks Motorsports that has a orange and blue wire instead of a brown and black one, the others are the same, but white is yellow on Ricks. Any idea which one replaces the brown one and black one? Thanx

Hey, thanks for the vid. I am wiring my XS400 bobber and running into some trouble. Is there any way to tell which white wire goes to which terminal on the rectifier, or doe it matter? Mine is not a points system.

I have a '76 xs650 and am running a reg/rec like yours. I'm also using a pamco electronic ignition and a toggle switch instead of key switch. My question is in regards to the power feed to the brown/black wire. I run a wire straight from the battery to the switch and from the switch to the brown/black wire? Is that wire the feed to the headlight and taillight? Or where do they wire into?

Did I find the right KZbin channel dedicated to motorcycle repair & maintenance? I found the information in this video precise & detailed but wonder if the application would still be the same for my 1985 Yamaha Maxim XJ700 that's having some issues with idling & MAYBE related to the electrical system. It wants to stall at idle even after warm up. When I use the brakes or turn signals the lights dim & I wonder if they're related or separate issues? Btw the carbs were just rebuilt 5 months ago.

Hey man do you have a complete diagram for this setup? I tried following the video and drawing one up on MS Paint but how did you run the lights/keyswitch/toggle for hi/low?

Yeh" the brown wire [ 12volt switched] to the brush on rotor, Magnetizes the rotor. enables magnetic field, make shure you have 12volts at this brush terminal , [ ignition ON] , as rotor spins the magnetic field enables charging, ,great video,, simple instuctions,

I have 1980honda cb750c dohc. When I got it parts of wiring harness were taken . I didn't se a Starter solenoid IN YOUR VIDEO I have one do I need a rectifier?

Is the rotor powered up all the time as soon as key is on ? or does the regulator rectifier switch rotor off and on as charging power is needed ?

Help!!! I know it’s been awhile since you posted this but mine has , coming from the stator a blue, black , green , and three whites. Do I use the blue instead of the brown?

Why do you need to unground the brushes? Mines a 1980, just curious.

@electricchurch666 Alright! I wired it just as you said in the video and it seems to be working fine so far. First setup of 3 that has actually worked. What do you recommend I use instead of a toggle? Regular key ignition? I'd have to find a spot to mount one and then what do I do about wiring the lights? They are wired into the brown wire per another diagram from pamcopete. Seems to be working fine though.

ok... that's all well and fine if your xs uses that type of rectifier....but some earlier standard models, 1977 and older, have slightly different wiring and a different type of rectifier, situated under the battery cradle/box, and the one shown on the video is not suitable...so...what happens then?

79 xs650 battery is good but no power anywhere else on bike searched for loose or broken wires to no avail..unable ta find cause

WHY IS MY FUEL LINE NOT TAKING IN MUCH FUEL??? I was running my xs650 today and i noticed my fuel window cone thing kept draining completely out as if i was getting a blockage of fuel somehow. i tried riding it around but its just acting upp...ANYONE please if you can help me with some pointers i would greatly appreciate it.

In my book the red is also split, one to the rect. and one to the ignition switch. Is that ok ?

Yes. This means when the key is on, the 'on side' is getting fed power from the battery and charging system.
