Hey man, hope you're doing OK. Just dropping by to thank for the detailed video and bonus test drive. Finished the process this evening, few details from my experience, the boss nut wasn't that hard to remove on my stone age non-ABS bike, unstaked, used the MotionPro clutch holder and a breaker bar. Started kneeled on one knee, slow and steady pressure as I stood up and it simply moved, no cracking sound or anything. Regarding bathing the parts in oil, I just dumped a little bit of oil inside the friction disc package and massaged the parts inside it as I inserted them in the bike. To anyone else attempting this or just a clutch refresh, there's really no need to keep soaking for a long time. Additional mod, a longer clutch push lever will make the clutch pull even lighter, I used the MT-03 push lever and along with the Assist and Slipper Clutch, the engagement range is much wider now, on par with my small cc Honda. The bike really comes to life, much more enjoyable in city traffic :D

I know this is an old video but this is still happening to old fz09. Happened to mine last week and things you need to do you need to remove your oil sump and clean it, remove the oil strainer it has a mesh inside that you can clean, and also check the oil pump mine had small nicks from small particles. And if you still have this bike that piece that is missing from your friction plate is sitting in your sump

@@DirtyHammmer nice man good to hear, did you have any other problems down the road as I am still cleaning my engine while waiting for my slipper clutch, I have also found alot of small particles and clutch parts in my oil strainer, im scared that those particles might have gotten everywhere in the engine and did some damage

You need to check your oil pan. Those pieces are probably down there.

One gripe with this video. I just attempted this myself and when attempting to un-stake the nut at 12:10, I tried to "pound it out" as you said but ended up stripping out the threads of the shaft. Be careful with that, you really just have to lightly tap the nut walls outwards. Wish you would have filmed yourself doing that part. Either way I chalk it up to my own inexperience.

DirtyHammmer My fault. Got a little over eager. So I was actually able to proceed with the installation and got the new nut torqued down. However, when I went to put the case back it appeared to be on correctly, but the clutch cable doesn’t have the right tension for some reason. I tried adjusting it on both sides. So it’s at the shop awaiting diagnosis this coming week

Bret Halleran I ran into a similar issue, i over torqued the clutch pressure plate bolts so the clutch wouldn’t disengage. Just had to re torque them

DirtyHammmer welp got it back from the shop today and all it was was that push rod. Couldn’t get the teeth lined up properly with the teeth on the case cover lol. Hardest part of the whole job haha. That clutch pull though!

XSR Slipper clutch kit is $215 USD, Extreme creations reinforced billet clutch basket is $382 USD, and 6 friction plates and 7 clutch plates total out to around $140 USD. So for all of this I replaced in the video around $737. You don't need the reinforced billet clutch basket if yours isn't broken, so without that it'd be $355.

hey austin, realised you're using most of the clutch and friction plates from fz09/fj09 except for the xsr ones which came in the kit, would the full xsr900 clutch and friction plates not fit? found that basket is the same parts for all, and was thinking to do a full clutch swap to the xsr900 one, if it is possible. and it will also be easier to order parts for next change out if it a full swap. thx in advance!

great video, did you hear some bad noise when the engine is running because of the broken clutch basket ? i'm hearing some rudeling when the engine is runing in neutral but when i pul the clutch the noise disepires then i discuvered i have one crack in the clutch basket and dont know now is the noise becouse of the broken clutch basket or something else. Can you help me ?

Most likely it’s due to the broken clutch basket, i had a similar noise and the crack caused some rattling.
