Great, clear instructional video. I love the Serow - I've had two of them - and a frequent concern was the limited range. Nice to see a practical solution. Hmmm - maybe it's time for another one?

I replaced the stock tank on my xt225 and have mixed feelings. Pros: great tank , perfect match for the Yamaha blue, and the riding position is unchanged. Cons: the petcock bolts would not line up till I elongated the holes in the petcock with a rasp, a tedious project. Most worrying was the amount of blue plastic shavings I kept washing out of the tank: pour in a half gallon of gas and slosh in about, pour it out into a coffee filter, repeat. Ten washes and still more little blue curly cues. I am relying on the filters on the intake lines. Tried compressed

Hello Blancolirio! These videos are a treasure! Thank you so very much for making them. You have a very clear and non-threatening teaching style for the mechanically weary. Now, about the horn. While you were in there why not replace the horn perhaps with a Denali Mini Soundbomb or similar louder horn? I am thinking of doing this as my horn is presently non-functional. Not sure if it will fit in the same spot. I live in OR where I believe we are not required to run the charcoal filter. I was thinking of removing the charcoal filter and then mount a louder horn in its place. Do you have any thoughts on this? Again, thanks so much for the videos. I am looking forward to your carb cleaning/rebuild video if that is still in the works. PS I’m an NU Miner from 1985! Nevada County is Magic. I hope it does not burn up in a forest fire this summer (sheesh!).

I would most certainly NOT use thread locker in any of the tank inserts, unless you’d enjoy the inserts coming out when servicing later.

Maybe you need a more case protecting skid plate, first you get scratches on case second you get a hole and lost oil. I like your XT videos and tuning to the low budget bike.I make a skid with wider protection wings for my case ,clutch and alternator side on my KLR 250.
Hello! I have an XT225 that was peeing gas, I took the carb apart (first time ever) and the carb looked good. Nothing was junking up the jets and stuff. I hypothesis that it was my petcock. But the thing is, I took the gas tank off and now I don't know which tube goes where. The shorter line goes to the gas tank but I have no idea where the longer line goes. (The longer line on the canister.) Do you think you can give me some guidance as to how the tubes go?

I have actually been able to squeeze over 100 MPG from my 2001 XT225 being conserative and on the road. I installed (after some fitting difficulties) the Clarke fuel tank because I'm planning a Trans America Trail ride this summer. I am disappointed and it should be known that the "4.1 gallon" Clarke tank actually only holds 3.473 US gallons. I have yet to see if it is all useable. I am wondering why nobody else has mentioned this and how Clarke can advertise a capacity that far off.

I had the misfortune to buy a Clarke Gas Tank for my Yamaha XT225 Serow. The quality of the Clarke Tank was abysmal and the standard of after sales attitude was disgusting. Clarke sent a different color tank to what I ordered, but when I complained Clarke were just not interested. The tank is so poorly made that the tank leaks fuel from the petrol tap because the surface of the base of the tank is uneven and not finished properly, meaning that is it is difficult to get a petrol tight seal. The metal inserts in the base of the tank, to which you mount the fuel tap, also started to come out of the tank and would not support the bolts which hold the petrol tap to the base of the tank. I have tried to get the tank repaired locally but I am having little success, so the tank may end up in the garbage bin. I would avoid Clarke Tanks at all costs, unless you are happy with an extremely dubious and poor quality product and non existent after sales service.

You are way over budget, in my opinion those bikes are ok for someone with a long dirt driveway wishing to ride to work or the market but to start putting aftermarket tanks and everything els that would make it a better bike, why not start with a good offroad bike.

Hi Adam - have you seen Juan's video of him riding the Rubicon Trail on a Serow? A small, low-seat, low weight bike like this is perfect for really technical off-road terrain. It's as close to a street-legal Trials bike as you can get really... (in States where you can't street title an actual Trials bike of course).

Hang on Adam...you'll see...$3500 tops for this complete bike and build.
