What a well spoken fellow, never knew he could be so entertaining in this way. And we all know, such a talented and amazing guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, , i imagine that he played all those fantastic solos and riffs on "Drums" & "Black Sea" etc - my favourites No Language, 10ft tall, Rocket from a Bottle and did he play the banjo on 'Millions"? And the strumming on Paper & Iron, WOW! I'm sure Andy was no slouch on the strings but i imagine he left the real playing to Dave. Nobody really knows who played what in XTC, so its left to our imagination. And now its truly very sad to hear Dave say that he thought of himself as only a sideman in XTC. After 20 years? Yes, the way he left XTC wasn't nice we heard but that cant possibly diminish the amazing 19 or 20 years before that.

What a wonderful chat from Dave. He plays so beautifully. Great to hear from a Master's own lips what instruments speak to him and allows such music to come forth. What a sound this Fender Strat has as Dave touches his magic fingers over the strings and moves so skillfully over the fret board. Magnificent little vid here. Just curious, but if XTC got screwed over financially for so long, how did Dave accumulate all these collectable vintage guitars?
@martingregory1616 жыл бұрын
From what I've read, he spent a lot of what money he did get paid on guitars - sometimes buying them in poor shape and doing restoration work. His own site features lots of his guitars with the stories behind them - although I haven't visited for a while and I don't know if Dave still posts new stuff. Also, he was buying in the 70's and 80's, before prices went stratospheric for many vintage models and guitars became "investments." Brilliant musician. So glad he is getting some exposure these days with Big Big Train, and playing as tastefully as ever.

This is nice and all but the fact is vintage guitars are basically baseball cards andhavenoqortg besides what people value them for. It's all nostalgia and hype for early rock tars. In terms of functional instruments they are more like cars. I.e. they have never been better than hey are no. The idea that thse old guitars are somehow better than what he been made in the last 20 years is a laughable myth.
