Improving the Xiaomi M365 / PRO braking, is it possible? As we all know, the Xiaomi M365 / M365 PRO but also Essential / 1S / Pro2 scooters are equipped with an electronic front brake and a rear disc brake . Before going into the article on how to improve Xiaomi M365 PRO braking it is right to dedicate two lines to the stock operation of the brakes of these scooters.
The front brake during braking will slow down the rotation of the front wheel by generating energy KERS which will then be stored in the battery passing through the controller ESC. The rear disc brake will instead be pinched by the pads like the normal brake of a bicycle / car / motorcycle. It should be noted that with the battery completely full, the front electronic brake could be disabled as the energy produced by it could not be accumulated in the battery, already full.
Not infrequently we are contacted by users who, perhaps forced to face a descent as soon as they leave the house on a scooter with a 100% charge, find themselves doing sensational "straight" because in that first braking all the work done is entrusted to the brake. rear disc. Quite dangerous situation! There is therefore a need to improve the braking of the M365 / PRO.
Another point against the front electronic brake is that it produces a lot of energy , even 5 times higher than that supplied by the battery charger and which increases in intensity with increasing speed and pressure on the brake lever. It therefore becomes automatic to deduce that important braking at high speeds can put the controller in crisis, sometimes causing damage to the tracks and mosfets. On the “ Xiaogen ” firmware package, the braking forces have been reduced directly from the firmware, resulting in a reduction in the energy produced during braking but at the same time a decrease in braking force.
To improve Xiaomi M365 / PRO braking it therefore becomes clear that the solution is only one beyond reinforcing the controller with the addition of tin on the tracks and replacing the mosfets, thus being able to leave powerful braking at the front: act on the brake rear disc! For this purpose the famous X-TECH HB100 caliper comes to meet us :
Original Vs X-TECH HB100 caliper
The original Xiaomi M365 / PRO caliper pushes the brake pad only from one side of the mechanical arm, pressing it against the disc, which must bend slightly in its narrow margin of distance to press against the other pad which remains fixed, thus causing a twist of the disc itself. All this over time, also related to the often high operating temperatures, can lead to deformation of the disc itself. Such braking management also leads to poor modulation and extreme ease in stumbling into sudden rubber blocks. In short, a system that, although quite effective, is very "Spartan".
In search of improving Xiaomi M365 / PRO braking, we came across a semi-hydraulic caliper that comes from the world of mountain biking, the Zoom X-tech HB 100 . This oil caliper, which is available in different colors, uses two pistons that will exert uniform pressure on each of the brake pads.. This ensures that the disc does not bend over time and also provides a more efficient, stronger, safer and more buildable brake effect. X-TECH is a caliper with an oil drive pump integrated in the caliper itself often used in higher category scooters. The master cylinder is operated with the scooter's brake cable, which pulls the master cylinder actuator. This makes the system simple obviously we are not talking about a fully hydraulic braking system but really effective. It also allows you to work on discs with a larger diameter than the original.
X-TECH caliper compatibility
The X-TECH caliper, as previously mentioned, is of cycling derivation. Due to this unnatural predisposition for the micro-mobility sector, it has a distance between the two fixing holes that is greater than the two threaded holes in the frame of the scooter, whether it is Standard or PRO.
This difference in wheelbase is surmounted by an adapter bracket that is fixed to the frame of the scooter and which has an extra hole for fixing the “rear” part of the caliper itself. This bracket is available in plastic often 3D printing or in metal which we recommend for safety reasons.
Another clarification that must be made and that due to this bracket and its natural structure this caliper tends to work higher than the original caliper.
To ensure that the pads come into full contact with the surface of the disc and are not in its outer part causing uneven wear of the pads themselves and a non-full exploitation of the pad friction disc
The pads, on the other hand, are easily available even in shops like Decathlon as they are compatible with those of Shimano SLX / XT / XTR.

Hen didn't make sure the cable jacket was completely inserted into the caliper housing. Also before tightening the two mounting bolts he should have activated the brake to center the caliper over the rotor then tighten.

The original brake is perfectly fine it's just the dragging cable which makes it rubbish. I replaced my cable with a JAGWIRE TEFLON coated cable (£8) and switched the pads. Now has amazing progressive serious stopping power like my a quality mountain bike, solid. I didn't watch this to the end but i've watched a few and nobody bothers changing the cable. The problem is the cable not the brake, changing just the brake is pointless.

The original m365 brake only pushes one pad when you press the handle. It requires significant tweaking and adjusting to brake correctly without rubbing the disc brake during use, with very little room for error. On the other hand, a hydraulic brake pushes pads from both sides evenly, and the hydraulics give you significantly more stopping power with less handle force. You can certainly get the m365 to brake correctly. It's just more of a pain, and it will never rival the force of a hydraulic brake.

Can't you leave the caliper a bit loose and apply the brake so the pads with center the caliper? Tighten the screws and voila. The caliper is perfect centered.

Pro tip: If you feel your back tire slipping too much when you braking that means your front motor brakes doesn't activate when you pull the brake lever. In that case you should adjust little bit loose your braking wire. You will understand what i mean when you do it

It's possible. Some have said it leaks out the rubber "gasket' thing, but you can refill it super easily and takes barely any mineral oil so should'nt be an issue. Just bought them and haven't used them yet so can't speak from experience.

I bought one of these as a kit,got a new disc with it,the disc is cheap and nasty,it's not even perfectly round,ended up putting the old disc Back on,not to say all of the discs are going to be like that,just be aware!!
