So glad you emphasized how impossible those bottom bolts are to remove, even if you were lucky enough to have a busted manifold to start with.

OMG. That bottom rear bottom nut on the stud was rounded. Had to remove downpipe from cat to Y pipe. Rusted out, had to cut and drill them after that 9 hr setback with that last stud everything was good. FOLLOW TIGHTENING SEQUENCE. Your video gave me awesome advice. Thanks so much. 2002 Crewcab 4WD.👍

My 03 Chevy Trailblazer has about the same mileage as you Xterra. Still runs like a champ. It has the straight 6, 4.2 liter engine in it. I am the third owner of it, but when I bought it, it had all the receipts in the glovebox for all work that had been done on the vehicle over the years. Surprisingly, they even did regular oil changes on it.

Just did a pass side. Remove upper cat flange nuts, rear cat flange nuts. Exh pipe Lower flange nuts and hanger bracket nuts. Hanger bracket to crossmember nuts. order to get room for head stub bolts. DON'T FORGET TO COAT NUTS & STUDS WITH PENETRATING OIL. Might need to trim the manifold heat shield, or you'll pull hairs trying to start the shield bolts, make sure they thread in first and shield holes line up. Should take 2 1/2 hrs.

If you can get the heat shield off and don't feel like going after the manifold, put high temp stove and furnace cement on the cracks. It should buy you a year or longer unless you drive down rough roads.

My frontier went over a bump and passenger manifold broke, truck is 6 years old. Took to garage $1000 to fix, 90k miles. Wish I had a back up car to drive while I fixed it.
@MrSims-ky2ne4 жыл бұрын
You spend that $1000 buy another car then slowly fix your frontier, then sell the $1000 car for anything close to $1000, can even transfer your insurance to the cheapo while you fix your daily.

how did you manage to get the lowest bolt on the manifold to the cat? I can’t seem to fit a socket around the nut without it hitting the manifold. Did you use a crows foot?

Just got done with mine this afternoon. Boy was it a pain in the neck though. You video definitely helped but I did undo the exhaust pipe underneath the vehicle so that I could push back the catalytic converter back enough in order to get to the bolts in the back. Unfortunately I broke one of the exhaust pipe bolts so now the noise is coming from where the two pipes connect. Quick fix but I'm having a hard time finding some bolts around the house and I don't see any online. I suppose any bolt and nut combo would fit barring it goes through the flange hole.

You must’ve been lucky doing this, even with days of lubricant soaking (I dont live in an area that uses salt) I managed to snap a stud in the cat… i cant access the bottom bolt because the cat wont budge, and I dont want to remove it from the back two bolts. I have replaced plenty of headers and blocks in my day, this is the biggest PITA ever.

Did you fix it? The converter bottom stud stripped on mine, managed to get the cat out, now i have to replace the stud and nut on the cat but cant find it anywhere, might just run a bolt and nut in it

@michaelszczys83167 ай бұрын
Sister in law just picked up one of these and it appears to have the classic syndrome. Knock 😢sensor code and major passenger side manifold leak. By the sound of it I bet it's cracked bad under the heat shield. Probably buy a new manifold like you got, and the more Mickey Mouse treatment for the sensor.

If those stud bolts are anything like the ones on Fords an E- 10 fits really loose but a 1/4" socket, especially a good 12- point will fit over the torx end.

@@FixingWithPassion thanks they is the one I just ordered. Any advice I have a 2002 Xterra 3.3 it was a one owner vehicle I just replaced the distributor the timing belt the tensioner the water pump OEM spark plugs and nKG wires fuel filter and new tps. Mass air flow test fine. It ran fine for a long time after that. But now I go out to start it up in the morning and it runs super rough for a few minutes until it finally clears up and seems fine. No engine lights on at all. I’m stumped

@@scottyfixer452 thats sounds like either oil or coolant is making its way into the chamber and eventually burns out after it rans for a few minutes.
@scottyfixer4523 жыл бұрын
I figured it out. It was a bad new distributor. Also found out the thermal plunger on the throttle cam that extends when the X gets warmed up was bent . It’s supposed to be at 90 degrees. Somehow mine got bent and when it was at temp the marks were off. Well Long story short my timing was set at that throttle position with it bent. Once I bent it back to 90 it changed my idle and I reset my timing based on that new idle of 750 and PERFECTO this X runs like a dream now.
