2001. It was made in 2001. If we're talking like we lived in 2001, where broadband Internet for consoles weren't exactly popular, it probably wouldn't have happened. If it was by today maybe, if it was remade or remastered, that could be a thing.

Well I can't agree with that. Xbox Live was around and it was lively as far as I remember, so there is no reason why Koei couldn't have added online. DW3, DW4 and DW5 were ported to the Original Xbox.

Sure, it was around, but it was a slightly rare luxury to have (needed to be connected to modem/router, paying a ssubscription which we still do today, etc) and wasn't quite as popular as 360-One now. It probably wasn't profitable to Koei to make online servers, given their inexperience (the lack of know-how to make proper online modes without it being tacked-on, or even to take any risks for reward) at the time, given the first title to introduce online play was Samurai Warriors 2 (I believe?). NTM the Xbox ports of these games didn't sell so well as their original PlayStation releases across the board. Mind you, this is pure conjecture on my part and that I've never had the chance to actually try the online expansion bay add-on for the PS2 nor have I owned an original Xbox until way after its life cycle along with the Live service. (Though I do know games like Socom, Final Fantasy XI and Halo revolutionized online play for consoles so I guess nothing is impossible)

Well, watching this in 2021. 😃 But actually, I think I'm fairly okay in Dynasty Warriors after playing many games in the franchise. Still, I probably will lose to the skilled player. But best way to improve your skill? Beat Lu Bu without leveling up your character.

Jasper Grit No. It's simply not the same. If you play the old games, you can feel how heavy and focused each and every attack is. And the charge attacks seem to have their uses. In DW8, some charge attacks are deeply inferior and overshadowed by others, especially when you have the EX attacks. And strangely, even the musous were better. You had control over how long to execute it and to make every hit strike. In DW8, you just press a button and watch a cool little animation, and without much effort, able to eradicate groups of enemies. And there's no feedback offensively nor defensively to fill it up. Mainly you get em through the pick-up items, and you can even store three of them. With that and the Rage Musou, enemy officers are a joke. And rising the difficulty doesn't make it better, because it's not a genuine combat system. It then becomes who can land the deadly blow first because the enemy relies more on attack power than being an aggressive & smart AI. In return, making you have to resort to playing the game that way as well. People complain about DW6, but at least DW6 was a lot more like the older games in some of the aspects I mentioned. Even with the Renbu system, it felt rewarding and balanced. DW7 and DW8 feels cheap.

yes he's op but he isn't the only op. there are others. lu bu has the range and the power and best 0th charge but his musou sucks and his 4th charge (knock up) often bugs out by doing a 180 in the middle of combo. cao cao is underrated, zhou yu, wei yan op really unpredictable timing, and my favourite character: pang tong (all the goodness of a meng huo style musou without the sluggishness - awesome). zhao yun is SO OVERRATED; he's fucking terrible, his musou is so lame.

Actually, DW4 was awesome(I never played any of the ones before). DW7 was a decent change of pace.. But lack of Create an Officer KILLS it. I'm glad DW7 Empires brings Edit mode back in about a month.

However, if you can decently read Japanese and have a Japanese PlayStation Network account, then you can buy it off the Japanese PlayStation Store. It costs 1,500 yen I believe.
