Hi Friends Welcome back to the craft castle! Alrighty, let's attempt to make a multi color screen print design. I can tell you that it's actually going to come out freaking amazing and although I'm scared to try it, I'm really impressed with myself LOL
This video is the 3rd in a series. I received this new screen print machine and have been exploring everything about it with you. The first video in this series was a simple unboxing - where I (we) really truly didn't do anything correct. But even though I didn't do anything correct, I still got something that looked decently cool. Video 2 was all about what I learned in the unboxing and what to do differently. I took my new learned information and ended up with a single color screen printed design that I can tell you seriously impresses me! I screen printed y'all!! Now in video 3, we're going to attempt (and also succeed) in a multi color screen print design!
The one thing I was most nervous about with the multi color screen print was that it wouldn't line up in the end, however! This all lined up perfectly with absolutely zero issues! ZERO!
I want you to know that 'behind the scenes' I do zero work. What that means is that in these videos it's the only time I'm actually using any machine. I do not do any additional work outside of what you see. So in 3 videos I went from not knowing anything to now creating a multi color screen printed t-shirt! This is how easy this system is to use! I have never screen printed in my life, and in 3 videos have done some amazing freaking things! Are you impressed? LOL it's okay if you're not, because I really am!

xTool says that you can do "at least a hundred prints" with an engraved screen. The FAQ also says "if you are willing, you can use a mold release agent suitable for ordinary stencils to remove the film from the xTool stencil, peel off the coating on it, and then use photosensitive adhesive to recoat and solidify the stencil." I have looked into "regular" screenprinting before. You need to have frames, stretch fabric on it, make sure it is the right tension without any ripples, coat it with emulsion, let it dry in a dark place, print your design on film (and make sure it is 100% dark), expose the screen for a specific time with UV light, wash out the design and let it dry again before you can print. If I recall correctly, the price for 4 screens will be around $25, so about $6.50 for each screen. That's not bad if you think about all the time and work you save. You don't have to hide your layers by the way. Just setting them to "ignore" will make sure they are not engraved.

I have figured out as long as your wash your screens when you're done using it for the day, the screen will last you a LONG time.

If you look on youtube, it is possible to apply fresh emulsion to reuse the screen.

We been doing this stuff in the laser community forever. Get you some wire mesh a wood frame, a staple gun and spray paint and you are good to go.

Thanks for the video. Have you tested this out with white ink on a dark/black shirt? And/or have you tried using other brand screen pronting dye with the xtool cut screens?

Great Video! Thank you for taking the time. I have a couple of questions. I have asked these questions to other KZbinrs and also Xtool with no response. How do you buy more screens? I cannot find a link for those. Also when buying the bundle kit the alignment bar for the D1 doesn't show on the picture. Is That an accessory you bought separate? I kid you not, if I could at least find how to buy extra screens I would buy the bundle! Until then I'm going to hold off.

The d1 kit comes with the alignment bar. Xtool told me they’d be allowing the purchase of more screens, but I have yet to see a listing for it. So I’m not sure when it’ll be available.

Do you think this would work with a glowforge? I do not have an xtool engraver and I was wondering if I need to purchase the engraver too or if I can fidget with the settings on a glowforge to make it work too.

I think it’s definitely possible. However, the alignment bar that comes with the d1 is very helpful. If you could figure out a way to get it properly aligned everytime on the forge, you’d definitely be able to engrave the screens on it.

I also have a glowforge and am hoping the same thing. If the alignment jig that they include does not fit inside the glowforge I will have to see about making some sort of jig to align the screens for multicolored prints. Fingers crossed.

I'm washing all my garments today - fingers crossed they still look amazing. Also, I'm not sure if I correctly washed my screens or not but I just took them outside and hosed them down and let them air dry in the shade. they still look brand new so, maybeeeee It was correct? There's no washing instructions in the manual.

if you want to sell the shirts, it's best to heat set but it all really depends on the ink used.

For my garments that I've done I've done zero heat and they've been washing amazingly. That said, I'm also using xtool's paint.

You're supposed to place the screen, place the fixing pins, flip it over, remove the cardboard, THEN tighten the levers when the screen is face down. Page 9 of the instruction book.

One thing you need to remember about the reusability of the screens made for multi-color prints … once you remove that screen from the frame it’s in you have lost registration forever. You will never ever get them lined back up again. In the traditional screen print world they’d stay on their cheap wooden frame. But this is not conducive to reusing those tyoes of prints. Single color? Sure. But not multi color (unless you plan on buying a bunch of these fancy frames).

yes, the knobs on the bottom are suppose to help with aligning. I have yet to take off my screens to replace them and try lining it up again so I'm unsure how easy/hard it is.

Hmmm you are saying many things that when Twiggy does a KZbin on this product are the opposite. So Heidi is telling you one thing but Twiggy on the Lives is saying completely opposite. I’m concerned now about my backing this purchase. The photo sensitive solution on the screen can absolutely be removed. You just have to buy photo sensitive remover. They Twiggy also tells you what you do to put new photo emulsion on the screen for cutting different designs on the screens. Secondly you absolutely need to heat set your design. Check the instructions on the fabric paint you use when screen printing. They use a heat gun to heat set the design. If it did not require heat setting they could use a hair dryer. I will follow up with xtool to make sure the screens are reusable because if they are not this is a very expensive screen solution having to buy all new for every design you think of. Thank you for your information because I find it concerning that Heidi from xtool is saying one thing and the Xtool live hosts including Twiggy on this product are saying the opposite.

I'm unsure about the reusability of the screen because I was told by Heidi you can't, however the "absolutely needing heat to set the design" isn't not accurate. I've actually washed all of my garments and bags (and this is with zero heat setting) and they look exactly like they did when I finished the video recording. Maybe xtool screen printing paint is different than other brands, I have zero clue. But I can tell you without a doubt I didn't heat set anything and my shirts still look amazing.

Yes you can absolutely reuse the screens with screen printing emulsion because someone has already done it and it works just fine. Now of course someone from the company is going to say no you have to only buy new screens from them because they want the money of course and don’t want you finding a different way to utilize their product. So with that being said, I myself will definitely be reusing the screens with emulsion myself.

Jum🤔that product came too late to the actual craft world. Sublimation is easier, cheaper and you do not have to deal with ink mess.

Sublimation only works on high count polyester - which I definitely don’t like to wear (and I know a lot of others don’t either). Also, sublimation work well only on white or light grey. You can’t do it on black or dark colors.

I also don’t like the high polyester count required. But the biggest drawback for me with sublimation is the lack of white. Being limited to only printing darker colors on lighter fabrics is a bummer.
