I do my best to share everything I know about living green and toxin-free. A lot of that is looking closely at the food we buy.
But it’s just as important to look at what our food goes in, aka what it makes contact with before going into our bodies.
Assessing the quality of your cookware is a crucial step in creating a clean home. Today I thought I’d take some time to share what I like using in my own kitchen: Xtrema Pure Ceramic Cookware.
Xtrema is a completely non-toxic and all-natural line of 100% ceramic cookware-from the core to the glaze. This includes skillets, woks, sauce pans, dutch ovens, bakeware, teapots, and more.

Really great video. I have nickel allergy and didn't realize that there is a small amount of nickel mixed in with the stainless steel (unless it is 10/0). It is crazy how some of these are so toxic yet the normal public is not aware. Thanks for sharing this ceramic cookware.

I have been using a 3.5 quart Xtrema saucepan daily for three months. My biggest dislike is not being able to pour water out of the pan without it going all over my counter no matter how careful I am. I primarily use my pan for bringing water to a temperature of about 170 degrees for making tea. Also, I don't like how Xtrema is slower to warm water vs a stainless sauce pan. on 6/1/19 I compared the time it takes to bring water to 185 degrees between a 3 quart stainless steel sauce pan and 3.5 Xtrema sauce pan. I poured 580 grams of room temperature water into my two sauce pans. Then placed them one at a time onto the same heating coil of my electric range. I aloud for plenty of time between tests to allow for the coil to return to base line temperature. Here are the results: stainless steel 3 mins 6 secs, Xtrema 4 mins 40 secs. At first I was thinking I would return the Xtrema then purchase the latest greatest stainless steel sauce pan. However, I kept it despite those two short coming. I think long term use of metal cookware is best avoided so as to not cause additional metal build up in the body. Today I received a 10 inch Xtrema skillet. Now I am looking forward to cooking all my meat on this vs metal.

clint076 yes I absolutely agree with what you just said! It does take a bit longer to heat, but cooking on this quality ceramic is worth it for me.

I bought the 10 inch pan, when I make an egg omelet the inside portion cooks fast, the outside portion along the edges hardly cooks (sometimes the egg whites stay clear, while the rest of it is cooked well). I like these pans for the health reasons, but they are not by far the best cookware I have ever used, in fact, for some things, the opposite. Sorry, hate to be negative, just giving an honest review. I do like my tea kettle though, hard to mess up water.

Hi. Appreciate your review. I have a piece of exrema, in which I love to use to make Japanese rice. I'm looking to get another piece, a pot such as this one you are reviewing. To make soups, stocks, stews, gumbo's , stuff I want to can, etc... Now I use a Le Creuset dutch oven, which has always been amazing, I love it. But the bottom of it looks unsightly, stained from heavy use for years and years. Plus it is so darn heavy. You may be familiar with Le Creuest ? Do you think Extrema is healthier to cook in ?

Hi Surati. I actually have a Le Creuset dutch oven and I use the xtrema WAY more often. Yes, I believe the Xtrema is definitely healthier to cook with because it is not coated like the Le Creuset!

I have purchased the Xtrema cookware, and I like the toxic free part of it, however, the fry pan doesn't cook things very evenly. And the sauce pan takes long to heat up, and then bang it stays hot, so there really is a learning curve to this cookware. it is not just my opinion, my wife who knows cookware through and through is having a tough time with it as well. I hope we figure it out, if not, it will be a shame to not be using it.

I have a smaller pot with a lid, and use it exclusively for making Japanese rice. Works very well for this.

I have been looking to buy their cookware for the past month and had the hardest time figuring out what sizes to get. I really appreciated your video bc it helped me see how big the 8quart was so I ended up getting the 10. Also, I clicked on your link so hopefully you benefit from creating a great video :)

Except it is not toxic free. Lead Safe Mama tested. High lead content in the glazes. It is glazed...not 100% ceramic only.

I have lead test swabs, two different kinds purchased on Amazon. I tested my Xtrema cookware and it was fine. No lead detected. I know my test swabs work because they turned violet when I used them to test the painted decorations on some antique glassware I have.

I recommend reading also Mamavation's review of this pan, which contradicts Lead Safe Mama's finding, and which I am more inclined to believe. There are a few other very indepth and thorough seeming reviews of Xtrema cookware, which seem to suggest that Xtrema is non-toxic. Lead Safe Mama is not an infallible source. I wouldn't stop your search with just her results. And keep in mind that what really counts is what metals, if any, actually leach into the foods -- and of course what air pollution (if any) is created by using the pans. If no measurable lead leaches into the food cooked, or is put into the air when pan gets heated, then I'm going to assume that the pan is: not lead-toxic.
