Every winter on the first snow, I have a ritual with myself - to go out in the snow, and listen to Yuki no Hana. Since I first heard this legendary classic over 15 years ago, when I was in middle school, it has always had a most special place in my heart. To me this song is the quintessential embodiment of elegance and melancholic beauty. It has had a profound impact on my personal musical aesthetics. It's perhaps no exaggeration to say this is my all time favourite song across all genres and styles, and astoundingly, I'm still loving it a little bit more with each listening.
Finally, I created my own version of it, transcribing it for an instrument that carries a similar ethereal quality - the shinobue, traditional Japanese bamboo flute used in festivals, taiko drumming ensembles, and kabuki theatre. I poured my heart into every aspect of the project from audio to video. I humbly hope I did it justice.
