got a Zumo box replacement for the previous Xfinity box - Flex - both have a lousy wifi connection - and it is constantly dropping the connection - = the two boxes had exactly the same form factor - even the printing on the box was identical... funny thing - i have a firestick on the same tv - NEVER drops the connedction

So i guess the benefit to this is, what I've noticed using the Xfinity XiOne box (Flex Software, same hardware) is that allegedly this has 4gb RAM, 16GB onboard storage, that you can't add to or subtract, and a 2.6ghz Broadcom SOC quad core. It streams 4k Dolby and HDR content and doesn't drop a frame or stutter at all. Sure the interface is locked down but as a streaming player once you are in the apps they run fantastic in my experience. It supports HLG as well.

But so many people have smart TVs and streaming devices already. Why bundle this with my Internet service. Seems like a dumb add on to justify overcharging. I got better service for cheaper via ATT in Alabama. Now I have usage limits and a box I'll never hook up.

@@michaelst7680 1: 90% of smart tv operating systems are really bad and get worse with age, external stream box is always the way to go if you can. 2: you are likely not able to conceptualize households that are different than your own. There is an extreme number of households with dumb tvs, some people still have CRTs as their main tv, and many many more smart tvs that are so old as to be effectively useless without an external player. I got a 2019-era Roku TV and its so slow that I decided to revoke its internet and give it a firetv stick I had laying around. After comparing the Xumo UI to that of FireTV, Roku, AndroidTV, and LG WebOS, I would rank Xumo 2nd, with Android being first. WebOS, FireTV, and Roku are so bad and full of ads that they all tie for last place (with roku being last last place).

I have 2 XUMO stream boxes. One has my movie purchases, the other says I do not have any purchased movies. Also, the second box that says I have no movies also has a recording option where the other one doesnt. I wonder if they gave me the wrong box and it wont sync. Also, there are recordings on the box I was give.

Im confused, I have a mohu leaf antenna and LG tv and get 900 channels approximately. 🤔 Do I need this for clear local channels because that would be the only reason also to take down my antenna which is hidden behind a picture anyway. 🤔

Buffering shouldn't be an issue with Roku though, are you sure its not the spectrum app that's throttling you?

I just got the xumo stream box, is because I didn't want to give up my basic Spectrum channels when I canceled cable. I have a brand new Vizio tv that doesn't support the spectrum app. My question is do you know if connecting the xumo box will over ride all the streaming apps I already have and set up on the vizio tv?

I’m not sure what you mean by “override.” By one should not interfere with the other. Everything in the Xumo will stay there, everything in you Vizio will stay.

More than likely, you’ll have to put the VPN on your router. You are better off getting a firestick or sheiks tv and install the VPN directly.

I don't know if I'll need to put a VPN on that one or if it'll work just like a fire stick no matter where it's at. But I'm getting one from the states cuz they're going in. I'd rather pay 1999 for it then $120 here in Canada because they don't have it and they got to be shipped in. Thank you triple m for everything you do. It took me a while to load it up. I was frustrated as heck I got rid of popular tv it was too high so I went ahead and ordered streaming. I had it before but it changed. I guess it’s okay but I miss my cable channels. On streaming it takes me long to look for what I like cause I like comedy and non-violent movies so I’m picky. I. Found some classic tv sitcoms I guess I will see about this and see if I really like this. If not I guess I will just go back to popular tv only thing I have to give them notice by a certain date cause I’m on a contract.

Question.. I’m getting this (via spectrum) for my grandmother who is illiterate.. will I be able to remove the unwanted apps to make it easier for her to access her spectrum TV app? Or will she have to cycle through apps to find spectrum TV? She’s 74 and can’t read at all… I wanna make this as simple as possible for her. I chose this option because our spectrum bill goes up all the time and is now $298 a month.. spectrum said she can save $90 a month by turning in her hardware and going this route… PLUS the controller has numbers which she needs.

Late af but this is probably a little harder for seniors to use compared to roku. We have it for my grandpa and he doesn't speak English but can read very little and to be honest easiest way to teach them is move certain apps to the front and just have them tell it apart via the colors

Well i got my Xumo streaming box because am a member of Spectrum cable but if i knew you don't actually need a cable service for it then i would've bought separately and just use to watch streaming platform services since i dont have a smart t.v anymore. I just don't like that i can't use the volume button anymore and now i have use 2 controls.

Same here. I think what they will ultimately do is pull the app again. They done this before. and then eventually brought it back. They lost a lot of customers because their over pricing. I remember when we were also able to get all their channels with their app, then a lot of channels get dropped if your not connected through your spectrums internet connection. The cable companies have always been greedy and skirted the laws. Just like they do with cable boxes. By law we are allowed to use our own boxes. So instead what they did is upped the price of the service to include the box for "free". So technically yes you can buy your own box, but they are expensive and you are already paying to rent them, they just updated their price for it to skirt the law. I think it wont be long before you have to use their streaming box to get access to certain content. Cable TV is way overpriced. Heck just today to watch to Rose Bowl, we had to log in to the roku and stream from ESPN. Our home team was in the game, why was this not broadcasted on our local stations? You know that the major non-cable broadcasters would have broadcasted it if they could have. They are doing everything they can to make people need their services. Having cable use to be a luxury, not a must have. But that's the way of the times. Now even local broadcasters charge cable companies the right to rebroadcast on their service because they seen how much these cable companies were gouging us and want a piece of the pie. We now see these providers charging high prices driving up our costs. This wouldn't have happened if the cable companies didn't get so greedy. Now they have to compete with streaming services. And as we are seeing all these streaming services are raising prices and limiting content to their service. It's getting out of hand. You basically have to have both, cable, all the premiums, and all the major streaming services to get all the new and exciting movies and shows. I miss the days of a somewhat expensive price but everything was right their. Now you have to have something from everyone and pay a lot more. It's getting to be way to much.

I am a Spectrum consumer, who added TV services about a week ago. This box is free for a year, but frankly, it doesn't do much, other than making it easier to change channels. Not worth a dime, customer service said I can't return it.

You should have several options on where to install it....pick one that nothing else is on. ie HDMI 1.....or HDMI 2

Have been a Spectrum customer for years. I was fed up with my super high Bundle cost. A Spectrum rep suggested the new Xumo boxes. I’ve had a few problems as I have 4 to hook up but I’m working on it. Several things… had to pay extra for the DVR service… another $10/mo but that allows for all 4 units… not it too big a deal. A round about way to Record is not to user friendly. Just give me a Red Record button! A biggie tho… can’t Pause, Fast Forward or Reverse! That sucks! If you’re gonna change something, make it better, not worse! Also when you bring up the Guide, it doesn’t show the channel Number… what?!? You can use the Voice Button and actually ask for the program tho. Something to get used to I guess. Still working out the kinks and trying to stay optimistic. Supposedly when all this new equipment is hooked up and the old stuff is turned in, my bill will go from the previous $330/mo to $215. Time will tell!

Sony, I don't think it matters. At least with Spectrum. Although I would have been satisfied with i. I returned to Spectrum because the app. did not send Dolby digital 5.1 to the box. A deal breaker since I have 3 home theater systems. The box did have Dolby digital 5.1, but again the app. Only sent stereo signal to it. Note, currently have Direct TV streaming/Internet. With the Gemini Air box.

True. Thou they add more apps as time goes on. Usually the ones Customers ask for the most. And it comes with 98% of the apps you could ever want and need. Only ones it's missing is the more netsh apps or ones made by small fan groups. ( Aka bootleg apps)

That sure was a long 'non review'. This seems geared to mature Spectrum subscribers who don't care much about adding apps beyond Xumo's long albeit finite list. Yes, the pricing isn't especially competitive vs Roku, etc. but is still better than paying for Spectrum boxes and claims to improve functioning specifically for Spectrum customers, particularly with voice commanding.

@@Triple_M It looks pretty dope! It seems to work better if you have a cable tv or a live streaming service. It has a built-in guide right on the menu screen and I believe it will play live tv when you turn it on like a traditional cable box. Picture in picture over the guide, etc.
