Xun Musical Performance and Review

A little introduction and a musical performance of the 9 holes Xun, which we actually call "Huen" In Cantonese. This is a Chinese ancient musical instrument, made with clay, just like how it is made with pottery! Very mystical, deep and rich sound!

Thank you so much for sharing this information about the Xun. I bought a simple looking Xun and a fancy, carved one in 2002 in Xián. Recently, I have had to recuperate from hip surgery, and I promised myself, that my recuperation time would be an excellent time to really learn to play each instrument. Your explanations are excellent! As a retired teacher, I very much appreciate your teaching style. The second time I went to China, in 2008, I visited JingdeZhen as a ceramics educator. There my friend and I met a young student at the university there. We have become lifelong friends. He has since gotten married, and is even about to have a baby. I will compose a song for his baby, and I will be able to do so because of your instruction. I am an upright bass player, and play with friends for fun and to entertain people older than myself. Wind instruments are not my "cup of tea," but thanks to you, the Xun is now my instrument too. I will master it.❤️

Not sure why, but the first thing I think when I hear this instrument being played, is that I think it would be incredibly interesting to hear it played in a duet with a Theremin! :-D

Wow you play the huen with beautiful tone bending! I hadn't seen one before today but now I want one. I guess there is some clay dust inside and that's why you said to wash it. I don't know when but I will get one sometime. I want a huen because my grandmother was born in China in Guilin. Her baby language was Chinese and she probably saw a huen as a toddler.
