Xuxa (pronounced “shoo-sha”), the Brazilian kiddie show host, traveled all the way to Los Angeles for this event, which was taped by Univision for broadcast on Cinco de Mayo and the following weekend. She performed twice that day, on stages at either end of Broadway in downtown L.A. There was an afternoon show and another as the sun was beginning to set, which I have labeled the “evening” show. She was promoting her Spanish-language recordings, then getting airplay locally on KLVE-FM.
I was there and witnessed both shows firsthand. Xuxa was admittedly not a great singer, but OMG what charisma, and songs with the catchiest choruses I’ve ever heard. More than 30 years later, I still remember it fondly.
