XV750 Virago Motorcycle Wiring Explained

Just a brief explanation of wiring diagrams. Yamaha XV750 Virago Used here but it's basically the same for most bikes

whats it mean when it say bl\y dose that mean black wire with yellow stripe or black wire and yellow wire

Where the same colour wire joins another wire of the same colour. There is a black dot is this a solder joint or a bullit conector ?

Graham Steers Yes where there is a black dot it means they are connected.

If you are talking about the starter button, one goes to negative (the frame) the other to the solenoid which then supplies power to the starter motor.

How do you connect the “oil level warning lamp” which has 2 wires to one wire speedometer?

The oil level sensor has only one wire (green, top of this diagram) the actual body of the sensor acts as the ground (negative) so I don’t understand your problem?

I'm installing new gauges which wire actually sends a signal to the tachometer and shows the rpms?

jimcrackz If it is showing rpm there must be a wire going to the gauge. There are more than one place that the rpm can be taken from, for example the spark plug cable TCI.

jimcrackz It says it has Tachometer wires and gives the lengths and colours

on the Virago it is the ORANGE wire coming from the TCI going to the REAR cylinder COIL.

Graham Steers I built jointed most of mine (true motorcycle ones from eBay). Where I could eliminate joints I did and ran complete wires to make it look cleaner and enable me to hide the wiring.

james higgins Take things one step at a time. Watch as many videos as possible. Don’t forget to clean the oil pump mesh filter (really should have day video on that as it’s so important) join the Virago nation group in Facebook, if you haven’t already. You can get some great advice from members.

That's not entirely true on the virago 1100 1994 it has black plugins and some of the plugins interchange
