Yes! In their Tear album which is the album before Idol came out is where they have a song called Anpanman. He’s basically right about why Kotaro likes Anpanman (so it’s good he’s already familiar who Anpanman is), though BTS also explicitly mentions in their lyrics how Anpanman gives a part of himself to help others which is why they referenced Anpanman in this song too and why that song goes well with Love Yourself Tear album

I noticed, and correct me if im wrong, that you tried to remember the dance move at 8:16 but it’s the “gwarra gwarra” which originated in South Africa. As a South African who has supported them for a long, long time, you don’t know how happy I was seeing that particular dance move in one of their videos. It is believed that this video and its visual are inspired both by African and Korean cultures. The safari background in the beginning, the suits they’re wearing while sitting at the table, the “gwarra gwarra” is all African culture. They use a lot of musical instruments native to Korean culture in the song too.

The fact that they had whole stadiums of people screaming “you can’t stop me loving myself” is so BTS - one of my favs! Idol & Anpanman are some of my favourite songs by them & always make me dance! Love your videos!

I think this song slaps because as a clap back to haters (a favorite genre of BTS songs) they were called too “westernized” for their first AMA appearance etc so fame back with a song about loving yourself that is a combo of Korean and African (beats from both traditional Korean combined with African beats; African suits with African patterns made in South Africa and Korean hanbok; dance moves from Africa like the gwaragwara and traditional Korea). It’s the ultimate clap back of them flexing how talented they are and owning everything they are hated for. They called Suga Snow White for this delicate features and white skin hair (an insult I guess for a tough rapper) he wears a snow trite sweater, JHope they call gangly he wears bugs bunny, V they call old man he wears suspenders and such every single thing in this has either cultural or BTs hater significance. They use too many filters in their lives and it’s cheesy… fill the video with dumb filters. This song is catchy and goes so hard live. You must do Anpanman it’s a top tier song by them especially if you know them. Have a great week.

I’m echoing everyone else about watching the explainer video to understand all of the cultural details. The video makes me smile every time because they took stuff that people gave them crap about and tossed it into the video. Some people don’t like that RM enjoys playing with filters. They threw that in there. V got crap for wearing glasses (on VLive maybe?), so he’s wearing them here. People always assume they use green screen/cgi for their videos (they mostly don’t) so they greenscreened the shit out of the whole thing. And, of course, that they’re becoming too Westernized which led to the really wonderful cultural aspects they added. Beyond the meaning and message, it delights me to no end and adds to the “you can’t stop me loving myself”

After watching “misheard lyrics” videos I can’t take Idol seriously anymore since the chorus sounds like “I SUED YOUR DAD- YOU CANT STUFF MEATLOAF IN MAH SOCK-“ 🤣but anyway in all seriousness it is an awesome song and “Love Yourself” Era is just amazing. I have 1 version of every album from that era and I love every song. DNA will always reign supreme for me but bts truly has saved millions of people including myself with that concept 🥲as I have struggled for so many years to love myself and I finally do. Glad you enjoyed this song haha! It’s personally not my favorite as it’s not my vibe but it can be catchy when I’m in the mood. I love J-Hopes part about Anpanman. It’s cute and catchy lol
