Thank you for including not just the Romanovs, but Prince John. He gets so little acknowledgement, because he was almost considered the 'dirty little secret' due to his condition, and very few know the Romanovs requested asylum from their British cousins during the revolution, and were denied - so, in essence, the Windsors signed the Romanovs' death certificates.

This is not true.At that point Nicholas ii had not good images with public his Empress Alexandra was German and after WorldWar BRITISH public were against givingasylumto German.george did everything to help them. Queen victoria's other grand daughter was queen of Spain and it was agreed that Spanish royal would give asylum to tsar's family. BRITISH royals were helping with money and intelligence(MI5). George VI save many other Romanovs and helped them with money including his aunt Maria fedorvina. Who was very close with BRITISH royals till she died.

The Romanovs request was at 1st accepted by the British Royal Family at 1st and then it was denied because the British Royal Family were very concerned that the British Public did not want a former Absolute Monarch living in the UK with his very large family living on UK tax payer money. You can only have one Royal family in your country. Britain could have had a revolution if the Romanovs had come over.

@@kytyoy5694 The Romanovs were their family, also they didn't have to go to England (where they wouldn't have killed the family, especially not the kids because things weren't that radical there (and even some Bolsheviks didn't wanna kill them so they covered their murders up): or to come back on my first point, they could've gone everywhere. Nicholas would've been happy to disappear to some remote location where he could live out the rest of his days comfortably with his family, yet this was sadly not given to them.

George V and Nicholas II were cousins. Their mothers were sisters, and Tsarina Alexandra was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria from her daughter Alice and was a German princess. George V was king during WWI, and there was a lot of anti-German sentiment (hence why the royal house name was changed to Windsor from Saxe-Coburg), so he couldn’t give sanctuary to his cousins, especially with Alexandra being a German-born princess. Monarchies in Europe were falling as a result of WWI, and George V had to protect his own royal family before the British public wanted them toppled as well. So, while it broke his heart to find out about the Romanovs’ execution, he had to prioritize his own royal family in the UK. If any of you watched “The Crown,” you may remember the letter that Queen Mary wrote to her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II, as she returned from Kenya after her father passed away. Queen Mary says, “I have seen three great monarchies brought down through their failure to separate personal indulgences from duty. You must not allow yourself to make similar mistakes.” She’s referring to the Romanovs (Russia), Hapsburgs (Austria-Hungary), and Hohenzollerns (Germany).

Yes, but children grow into adults. They didn't want anyone to be able to make a claim to a defunct throne. Extremely sad situation. There are actually Romanovs still living today, but no Romanov has lived in Russia since the fall of the dynasty.

Control in Britain, ties to Germany and Russia, a house given power and prestige yet all the time wracked with constant strife and scandal from the abdication crisis, to Prince John. This family suffered the most brutal periods of the world, both world wars and the revolutions between. The Kaisers fell from grace, replaced by the Nazis and the Romanovs would be gunned down leading to the communists rising both of which the British crown, the last of the Windsors would have to confront. This house suffered so much and deserves the respect, I can only hope those lost now live in Heaven.
