thanks for posting this video! very nicely made, i was in the 3rd tank coming over, (the 2nd Sherman, co-drivers position) just wanted to say it was an awesome trip and one i'll never forget, you have an amazing country and amazing people I've never felt so welcomed haha thanks for having us, but going across that bridge into Arnhem gave me serious goose bumps, we'd driven in the tanks the whole way from Lommel (Belgium) to Arnhem, stopping off at Valkenswaard, Eindhoven, Son, Sint-Oedenrode, Veghel, Grave and Nijmegen, we slept out under the stars in the streets and fields of the towns and villages we stopped at, just like 30th corps would have done obviously we weren't in combat like they were so it really brought it home, and to finally make it to the John Frost bridge was unbelievable, but yeah thanks again for posting this video :D May we never forget :)

What I find to be the most mindboggling is that this took place not all that long ago. And here we are, in 2020... looking at the state of our world and wondering what the future holds. To those people crossing that bridge in 1944, all they looked towards was a future in Berlin and going back home to their family. On 21st of September 2014, 100 years earlier, The Great War, also known as World War I, was just shy of two months old... most of the soldiers crossing Arnhem Bridge had relatives who fought during the Great War. In fact, the man commanding the German forces (Fifteenth Army) at Arnhem, none other than Field Marshall Gerd von Rundstedt, who served as Chief of Staff for the Imperial German 22nd Division during the Invasion of Belgium in 1914, is practically synonymous with the area of the Low Countries and Northern France. All this wonderful history... for good and for bad.

The operation was done, in good faith, in the name of peace to restore NL (the Netherlands/ or Holland if you must) back to the Dutch people, help end the V rocket campaign which killed thousands (more) in England and bring the war to an end . It matters not how long it took. Thank you. Dank u wel. Best wishes from England.

undertakings like market garden are the products of overconfidence, intelligence failures, and hubris. In the end though it is the courage of the airborne troops and those of XXX Corp who took up arms and fought like hell to get that last bridge. they deserve our undying respect as do the brave people of the Netherlands who fought the nazis with them.

it's very touching feeling , wish the XXX Corp arrive in time on 1944 to save the British and Polish who held the bridge long enough before they have to withdraw ....
@lyndoncmp57512 жыл бұрын
Not XXX Corps fault. The US 82nd didnt take the Nijmegen bridge in time. The Arnhem bridge was never taken by 1st Airborne. Only the eastern end, but the Germans still controlled the ramp to get onto it, and the western end of the bridge. The Poles didn't even arrive until all resistance at the bridge was ended. The Poles were never involved in the fighting at the Arnhem bridge.
@mriankarim2 жыл бұрын
@@lyndoncmp5751 yes i know that, the 1st airborne set a foothold at one side of the bridge... and the poles we're late due to fog and transport problem... and the poles we're drop far way from the bridge and they have to fight one of the best ss panzer division ... hats off for the lads at 1st airborne and polish brigade... like General Browning said " it's a bridge to far " .... and by the time 1st airborne pull of from there, XXX corps only 6miles away from Arnhem but they can't move much further due to stiff german resistance ...like i've said earlier, wish they arrive in time... my outmost respect to XXX corps, the 101st, the 82nd, the polish brigade and the 1st airborne...

We did ourselves proud in 1944 and Operation Market Garden perhaps should not have been a failure with a large amount of hindsight! The things is though it gave the Allies a base in the Netherlands for later events. Some of the Netherlands was liberated. The rest suffered very badly. But in the end the victory belonged to the Allies. Which I know the Dutch are very grateful for. As is a large chunk of Europe.
