I first listened to Jay Dilla around July in 2014 on mountain side in a small rural town at 3AM while it was raining. I played 'Dime Piece' on Spotify. That moment changed my life. I can't go more than a week without listening to some Jay Dilla. He got me through college and life in general ever since. Thank you and shout out to the 313!

For reasons unknown, I couldn't reply to yalls post so I just put it up. Any J Dilla, Madlib or MF Doom ?s yall have, send them my way & I should have the correct answer. My brain is a supra-computer of hip hop worldly knowledge. Peace.

Hey! How are you doing? I started checking out to this lyricist who goes by the name Cammy-Kun he is really amazing dude, and I hope more people check out his art instead of sleeping on him. You should check him out, he usually makes music about bullying, depression and other cool topics people can relate to. You would love it, I promise.

I don't know. I mean, he sampled everything in contrast to someone like Pharrell who plays instruments and drums...
@WebsterNobert8 жыл бұрын
+Saskiequelle Since when are keyboards and drum pads not real instruments? and pharrell has several interviews where he talks about J Dilla being one of his primary influences. So stop talking out of your ass.
@midnightmarauder478 жыл бұрын
j dilla would play his own drums at times and played a lot of stuff on his moogmini

Ghebrehiwet look up J Dilla playing drums for Common's Electric Circus album. After watching, learn to shut the fuck up.
@skyjuiceification6 жыл бұрын
Ghebrehiwet ...dilla played a lot of instruments as well. Stop it.
@79Glitch5 жыл бұрын
Ghebrehiwet It looks like others already corrected you, but you obviously don’t know much about Dilla. Just listening to the beats on this doc ... you can hear plenty of keyboard parts that he played, and some beats that don’t have a single sample. Also, sampling the way he did-choosing a snare from one record, a kick from another, a bass note from another, a separate bass line from another, etc. is basically using the sampler as an instrument. He often had all his pads assigned a sample and then played the beat live from the mpc by hitting the pads, something that Kanye started doing after working with Dilla on the Common albums. You can hear Kanye doing a Dilla impersonation on “the people”.

A fellow hip hop fan in my little hometown started playing the Ruff Draft EP, early in ’03. We still have singalongs, whenever we meet. He introduced me to Dilla and I started collecting his records. In January of ’06, I visited my birthplace Chile and Stones Throw sent out a newsletter where they linked Donuts as a full album stream, some weeks before its release. I fell in love and could not wait to get my copy. I was still in Chile in February when another friend told me through chat that he had passed away.
