The nominee needs to submit a claim form (Form G), the death certificate of the account holder, and identity proof of the nominee. 2. **Legal Heir Claim**: If no nominee is specified, the legal heirs of the account holder can claim the funds. They must provide a claim form, the death certificate, legal heirship certificate, and identity proof. 3. **Closure of the Account**: The PPF account is closed upon the death of the account holder. No further contributions are allowed, and the balance in the account, along with any interest accrued up to the date of death, is paid out to the nominee or legal heirs. 4. **Interest Accrual**: Interest on the PPF account balance continues to accrue until the end of the month preceding the month in which the account is closed. 5. **Tax Implications**: The amount received by the nominee or legal heirs is exempt from income tax. However, any interest earned on the PPF balance after the death of the account holder may be subject to tax in the hands of the nominee or legal heirs, depending on the prevailing tax laws. It is essential for the nominee or legal heirs to promptly inform the bank or post office where the PPF account is held about the death of the account holder and initiate the claim process to ensure smooth transfer and closure of the account.
