I grew up owning this game on the genesis never realizing it was an arcade adventure.

@@Xygor I recently purchased the atgames legends mini and one of the built in games is the arcade version of CADASH. It's officially licensed and plays well. So much fun

Underrated classic. I remember it being in my small town arcade next to splatterhouse and Willow Loved this game , it was a unique gem that not many appreciated . I think the quarter sink was a giant deterrent to all but the most die hard fantasy geeks

Our local pizza parlor had it....pretty sweet stuff! Those were the days. Splatterhouse and Willow are also classics!

3:20-3:49 That is "Double Dragon 3-Level" insane: putting in more quarters for more playtime.

Haha, yeah, the Double Dragon arcades were HORRIBLE for that.

I agree, Cadash was terrific! I've played a ton of it over the past few years, enough so that it feels kind of easy to me now! The four-player linked cabinet mode is not emulated by any program. MAME has so far completely refused to even try. Not even the official emulations of Cadash support it. The ONLY way to play Cadash with four players is on the original arcade hardware. It's hard to believe, but true. I saw some time ago that there was an alternate version of the first level, presumably the one that players 3 and 4 begin at. It begins in a different kingdom, "La Heim." It can be selected in the Debug Menu's stage select and played! There doesn't seem to be a way to play it on a single cabinet setup, making it nearly lost content.

funny!!! my most beloved memory about Kadash Cadash WAS that soundtrack! (and the graveyard sequence)😛 was 18 when that hit the arcades, so maybe that colors my memory! Also had the Genesis version...not perfect, but it brought those same endorphins back! GREAT vid

Wonderful video! I was fortunate enough to have a Cadash cabinet at my local arcade growing up, and I fell in love with this game the first time I played it. I had discovered RPGs via Dragon Warrior on the NES around the same time, and getting to play this side scrolling action RPG with those big sprites and cool classes to choose from was very formative for me. I believe Cadash is a major reason I still love RPGs over 30 years later. Cheers , you’ve earned my sub with this great look back at a great game.

You must be super-brave or super-crazy to leave the poor Ninja with just his initial Shurikens 😆 Little known fact: unlike player characters, which will always suffer a minimum 1 HP of damage, monsters can make even standard weapon attacks totally ineffective, if their A.C is high enough and the player's character is weak enough.

I went with my friend to a nickel arcade once and played this game. The arcade was loaded... but this game grabbed me and I spent most of the day there. I only saw it and played it the once, but I always hoped to find it again. But I couldn't remember the name... until today. Now to find out how to play it again.

I played Cadash a lot in the arcades as a kid in between Mortal Kombat! My parents would drop me off at the shopping mall for hours with like $5 in quarters. I could stretch that a lot with games like Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat since I got to the point where I could beat those with one credit and usually beat any challengers. But I started to get a bit tired of SF 2 & MK 1&2 so there was also Cadash in the corner always tempting me to put quarters in it. I'd quickly get annoyed each time I tried Cadash though realizing the quarter-guzzling nature of the game (including the timer to prevent grinding). It seemed almost impossible to beat it in a single credit so I'd usually stop playing after a quarter or two. Yet I kept coming back to it each time I was in the arcade, putting a quarter or two here and there. Later on, I became buddies with some of the staff and we played Cadash together one time with me as a fighter and one of the staff members as a ninja, and we made it so far together on our very first credit that he opened the machine and gave ourselves like 99 credits and he was cool with me continuing on them. Then we finally beat the game together (we did end up using an insane number of credits the further we got). One thing I'm thinking even though I have a huge soft spot for Cadash is that the non-linear RPG format of it is ill-suited for arcades. I'm thinking something like D&D Tower of Doom hit the sweet spot with RPG-lite elements where the game just has you walking right and only scrolls right while allowing you to level up a bit and purchase some items in between each stage.

Ah man I remember comming across this gem at a corner store. Even had the 2 cab 4 player set up. Me and my friend loved it as we were big DnD fans. And I remember the fights on who got to be ninja and who was not preist.... Till we got better at the game and realized preist was baller.

Got the Genesis version just before it's value hit the roof. The arcade one I have is on a PS2 Taito compilation, however there is one caveat, it's on the Japanese PS2 Taito Memories compilations. Games still playable, but I hear the Japanese arcade version is a little harder than the US one.
@Xygor2 жыл бұрын
Is that version a recreation of the arcade or Genesis version?
@Bloodreign12 жыл бұрын
@@Xygor The Taito Memories are basically an arcade compilation, everything on there is emulation, so it would be the arcade game.

actually.. it is in the Taito Legends 2 collection, but only for the XBOX and PC versions for some reason. Basically they both trade 4 games each, with the PS2 Taito Legends 2 version having Syvalion (also known as the miniboss from Gunstar Heroes Dice Palace), Ballon Bomber, RayStorm & G Darius (that game alone is worththe other meh titles added to the PS2 version), while the PC&XBOX version got Cadash, RayForce (aka the better RayStorm), Pop'n Pop (also quite solid) and Bubble Symphony aka Bubble Bobble 2. You see which one technically got the better deal of the two xD

About the sound, Casash was unusual for a game of it's età in that it didn't use any digitised samples. Everything you hear, from the music to the metallic clanging of Fighter's sword and the rustling of the Priestess's chain, are purely FN synthesis. Even the "laughing" sound of the Grim Reapers and Baarogue are just FM synthesis :-) By 1989, most other 16-bit (and even 8-bit) arcade games sed samples in some capacity, but not Casash.

I like arcade action RPGs. Cadash is not one of my favorites but it's pretty good. The Genesis version is honestly the worst one and I think the arcade game is accessible enough that you should just download that. The TG16 version is okay tho
