I like this change. Now, I can use Lightning staff instead of the mandatory flame one. I like the sounds and animations of Lightning much more than fire's.

There will never be true staff balance until I can use a frost staff as DPS reliably, AND have it be as viable as these two. I just want my damn frost mage after all these years.

I was a little scared this video was saying that flame staff was the clear winner and I would only be further mocked and derided for sticking with the lightning staff I need for my play style.... But it sounds like lightning might even be better than before, even with the change to dot ticks. Stylistic choice is what I crave, and these changes appear to deliver that. I also appreciate the validation for my favorite spammable, Crushing Shock, and my beloved forgotten Concentrated Force set 🖤🖤🖤

When I played I think I would use lightning for maelstrom but fire for other builds I’m not sure how it is now I forget why I swapped dagger/bow stam build always ended up my favorite for dmg

This is exactly what I said they needed on day 1 of PTS. Inferno being DoT and status, lightning being direct and channeled and ice being block and shields... Finally, some good changes for once...

as iv pretty much always been a heavy attack style player going all the way back to the alphas of 2014 on pc, and way b4 that on other games, and that never changed when i again started playing ESO after an almost 4 yr hiatus on PS4 in 2018 long b4 they got showered in luv iv always gravitated towards the shock staff as weapon of choice unless i was making a themic build (flame, frost etc), i preferred the shock for the lock on effect more than the quite nice extra aoe damage as it always annoyed me when an enemy with dodge/die/disappear literally as i finished my heavy attack on a non shock stave and it was totally wasted, i cant see these changes altering any of my builds other than my dot/heavy dk possibly trying it out as its themic, cheers for another great informative vid Xy keep them coming as theyre very much appreciated

I've always wanted to make a necromancer dot build with deadly being one set, idk why but when i saw that extra dot damage it had I thought I was going to enjoy it but sadly it wasn't what I thought it was going to be 😅

Status effects are 1 per target, right? So when you have 8 people attacking the same boss increased damage from status effect would not even be noticeable, right?

Seems like a nice change. It was annoying having to farm for fire staff and get the lightening staff like first drop. Now I’d like them to balance daggers vs staves.

I actually get flame staff after flame staff after flames staff and I'm looking for a lightning staff seems like the only way I can get a lightning staff is to make one they're nothey're not dropped all the time and you can't get a flame staff Most special staff you get from quests are flame staff

i wonder how many times your nerd friends at zos spent time trying to "blance" or "improve" certain actions and sets only for you as a theory builder to figure something out that they totally didnt see, making them have to go back and rethink their "awesome" idea.

Staves are about choice. Oh wait now they are both for single target as they destroyed any concept of AOE on the staves.

That's not true, though. Direct damage is applied by a number of AOE skills. They might not be the ground DOTs you're used to, but they apply to targets in an area, eg lightning staff, boosting direct damage & a Templar using jabs, Solar Barrage, Impulse, the Crescent Sweep ultimate or the upfront hit of Ice Comet or Shooting Star, the initial hit of Spear Shards. Lightning staff is a great choice on this class while doing AOE damage. It's not destroyed, it's just not what you're used to, although you can still use ground area skills. They aren't disappearing and are still important (wall of elements) for applying your weapon enchant.

Yup. People keep conveniently forgetting about the sheer subtraction going on, and all of the non-meta builds being stepped on in the process.

To be fair, having one staff be single target and the other be AoE removes choice. For the staves to be choices they need to be roughly equivalent at the same things. They can acheive that in different ways, like in this case where flame prefers dots and lightning prefers direct damage but at the end of the day if they excell at dealing damage in different roles rather than by different means then there is no choice to be made except the wrong one.
