'Drinking by the West Lake After Rain Clears in the Morning and Evening' is a set of two poems by the Song dynasty literary figure Su Shi. These two poems were written during his tenure as the magistrate of Hangzhou, to praise the beautiful scenery of the West Lake. The first poem depicts the poet welcoming guests in the morning light, and drinking with them amid the evening rain, immersed in the rainy scenery of the West Lake. The second poem provides a comprehensive description and evaluation of West Lake's diverse scenery, using Xi Shi's beauty as a metaphor for the beauty of the lake. The second poem, especially its last two lines, has been widely circulated and is considered an apt appraisal of the West Lake.
