The most perfect morning up Y Garn, Snowdonia. I parked in the Ogwen Valley lay by parking and headed towards to Youth hostel to begin the walk up behind the visitor centre. (I was surprised the toilets were still open here at 6am) As I headed up the path the reds started coming out in the sky and I knew it was going to be a good one. I headed up past the lake, Llyn Idwal and through the gate to start the climb unto Y Garn.
About half way up there is a level bit where I stopped to appreciate the sky and to take some pictures as it was beautiful and so red. After about 15 minutes I headed up and the path started to get a little icy, and the winds picked up. I didn't have any spikes with me so I was never going to push it but I got within 50m of the top and found a nice little spot where I enjoyed coffee and biscuits. The cloud was magical just moving up and across the mountains, I sat here for about half an hour and then headed back down.
I have been up Y Garn multiple times and it really is my favourite of the Welsh 3000's but I didn't feel the need to summit on this occasion, I went for the sunrise and I was spoilt with that, the view isn't always best from the top either and as long as you enjoy it, it doesn't matter where you turn back.
My favourite solo mountain hike to date. In my opinion, Y Garn has some of the best views in Snowdonia.
