Fake news. There was no reason for Haile Selassie to hide money. He fully owned the Bank of Ethiopia. Not to mention there's no way Ethiopia had 50 billion dollars just for Haile Selassie. Ethiopia's national budget today is 15 billion.

@@Anjulo959 @masebo4673 You must not study history. The first bank in Ethiopia was established in Ethiopia during the reign of Menelik II. It was named Bank of Abyssinia and was opened by a British representative of the National Bank of Egypt. It is not related to the modern Bank of Abyssinia. It was 100% privately owned. After Haile Selassie's coronation he bought out the bank and closed it. He then replaced it with The Bank of Ethiopia. This time it was %100 state owned. This bank provided commercial and central banking services to the country. During the Italian invasion the bank ceased services and Italian Banks were established. In 1943 the State Bank of Ethiopia was founded by once again Haile Selassie. It operated until 1963 when Haile Selassie introduced bank reforms and established The National Bank of Ethiopia. The reforms shifted management and authority of banking and granted autonomy of the bank to the financial ministers and banking executives. The reforms also created credit for citizens, regulated exchange rates, managing the country's reserves, regulate interest, issue tender, and act as a government agency. My family worked in the Ethiopian banking industry since the of The Bank of Ethiopia was established in the 1930s up until 1973 when my grandfather who was an executive in the Ministry of Finance passed away. Haile Selassie had no reason to hide money because he was entitled to all of Ethiopia's money. Yet he didn't waste money and steal from the people. Instead he invested money in Ethiopia and he did it well. Ethiopian Airlines is definitely the smartest investment he ever made for the country. Haile Selassie I University (Addis Ababa U) campus is his own palace that he donated to the college. He gave scholarships to many including 2 of my uncles. He fixed Lalibella Church's structural damage in 1955. Not only was that defending the faith but also securing the future of Ethiopian tourism. Building Black Lion hospital which both of my parents were born in and has saved the lives of many patients. Are these the actions of a leader who stole from his people? I guess Abiy Ahmed demolishing neighborhoods and spending 4x the amount of money that it cost to build the GERD for his new palace is fine though.
