I think the next Grim Donut frame is gonna have to have a seat tube that lets the bottom end of the dropper post extend out below the bottom bracket.

If you worry about frame snapping than buy new frame or bike on sale, there's plenty But don't get second hand bike if you don't have money for servicing top of the line shocks(which are expensive),, spares(because you won't put a nx derailleur instead of gx axs on such a bike, right?) and so on. The best looking bike out there for sure. The seat tube doesn't bother me. I will buy one very soon! I don't care about the bottle cage. I live in Spain. We have one of the most demanding trails in the world. Especially where I live. Everything here is anti-flow. We basically have no straight lines and no marble highways. The trails are rough and extremely technical. So, the perfect conditions for this bike. The water bottle storage on every bike, for me is kinda useless. In summer we have always extremely high temperatures. This means, one big sip and my water bottle is empty. I always need a camel back. I guess, this Spanish bike is just right for Spain. I also don't like long seat posts. My background is downhill. I don't like long seat posts, although I am around 6'6' - 6'7' tall,...
@piast99
@piast99 8 ай бұрын
But that seat tube is so long for a reason. If it was shorter you wouldn't be able to put longer dropper anyway because you would need also longer insertion depth. Now look at that frame and see when the bottom of the cylindrical section of the seat tube ends and the tube splits around the shock. I bet that even that 150 mm dropper inserted fully ends just above that point.

@jrsfield
@jrsfield 8 ай бұрын
This seat tube thing feels like a red herring to me, especially if you say its 5cm longer than others. Did you take into consideration that the toptube is so much lower than on other bikes? Did maybe the visuals influence your perception? The split in the frame for the shock is not unique either, mondraker superfoxy or canyon sender are offering the same rear suspension under seattube tunnel, or are we saying all of them are too long? Am not saying it as a theory, it is one of my actual custom builds and cant say that bb to seat tube top it would actually be longer than other bikes I rode, but the toptube is definitely the lowest I ve ever had.
@SasquatchK
@SasquatchK 8 ай бұрын
Measurements are not perception. 5cm is a lot in a seat tube. When it's fully dropped, it's too high, and when it's fully extended it's not high enough because a tall enough dropper cannot be fitted. Canyon Sender is a dh bike, fixed seat post and height. Top tube height is irrelevant. You are never in a position in between the saddle and stem.
@jrsfield
@jrsfield 8 ай бұрын
@@SasquatchK 5cm is a lot, though 0-1cm is not that extensive. 460 is not such an unusual lenght, though people do not speak about it on a mondraker because the visual does not make itbso obvious. The shock under the seat tube is not so rare. Also the burn can accommodate easily a 200mm and other brands routinely include only 150mm drippers to reduce cost. Am not daft, IMHO the point is not that convincing unless you have tue visual and decided that the seatpost is a point.

40% sag on a 160mm bike = 96mm of travel left when your at neutral. The first 64mm is only going to be relevant after you unweight and then its all down to the initial compression dampening.

@kleenhall6885
@kleenhall6885 8 ай бұрын
Well if you don’t know what progressive or digressive geometry is then you’d wonder why. Most bikes made today are digressive for most of the travel No body abs I mean no body is talking about real progression vs the fake progression the bikes manufacturers want you to see with their graphs If you weigh 180 and ride over a 250lb coil. Your bike is digressive. Think about this. A Honda Civic has a 250lb coil rate and a Chevy truck is 600lb. Why are bikes on the same rate ?

I think this bike is for the Roadie that got their toe dipped into mountain biking but doesn't ride on the more technical trails, whether it's lack of skill or too afraid to, where better suspension is warranted. Easy fun while looking good is where I think this bike sits. I know the price tag makes it a hard sell, but when considering the prices roadies spend I think that shows the target buyer.

The bike industry loves to rely on the coil for tuning a shock the coil should only hold your weight up the shock valving should do the work of damping. That’s how shocks work. That’s how they were designed The industry revolves around digressive geometry and zero shock tuning. There no valving charts, there’s no talk of valving anywhere it’s quite the laugh that the industry builds poor geometry and rider complain about mid travel our bottom out support. That’s because the digression making it easier for your 180lbs to compress a 400lb coil. If you stand on a 400lb coil you can’t compress it at all. But put it on your bike and voila Your 180lbs can compress it to bind FYI coil rate times travel equals max load So 400lb coil at 3” is 1200 lbs to bind it How can a 180lb rider make 1200lbs ? Digression

The force of a falling object can be calculated by multiplying the mass by the height and acceleration due to gravity, then dividing by the impact distance. For example, a 180 lb person jumping up 1 meter high and falling back on the ground with natural velocity would exert 1200 pounds of force. The calculation is as follows: Energy input: Mass (81.65 kg) * height (1m) * gravity (9.8m/s^2) = 800 joules Impact force: 800 joules / distance (meters) = 5334 Newtons = 1200 pounds Even short falls can generate huge amounts of force. For example, a 200-pound person falling 5 feet is subject to 4,000 pounds of force on abrupt impact if my math is right. Calculating spring rates, is what the entire industry does. I'm sure if it was wrong ( most springs go in 50lb increments so not an exact number as far as the sping goes) Fox and RockShox would make the correction.
