I am italian and I saw this movie on national tv channel when I was a kid, probably 1970. I remember I was impressed and my heart was beating fast. I think I cried for this moving story. And now I am 60 yo I think I could cry again...
I think this movie, 1956 and 1985 versions are the greatest movies of all. I was born in 1956 but I have read the book and I have watched the both versions on vids. A truely great story.
