我們學佛之人,不要『一屁打過江』;一定要學會『八風吹不動,端坐紫金蓮』。人家說什么,我們聽聽就好,千萬不要當作一回事。生活就是這樣:你混好了,遭人嫉妒;你混不好,被人遺棄。忠厚點吧,別人說你傻;精明點吧,別人說你奸;冷淡點吧,別人說你傲;熱情點吧,別人又說你騷。怎么做都不好,怎么做都有錯。諸位,我們可以選擇不聽,不要受別人所左右。做最好的自己,做自己的事,讓他人去說吧!
As a practicing Buddhist, we should not be "blown across the river by a fart", we must learn to "remain unmoved by the eight winds and sit still upon the purple golden lotus." Whatever others say, we should just listen and not take it to heart. That's life: if you do well, you'll be envied; if you don't do well, you'll be abandoned. If you are honest, you’ll be called foolish; if you are shrewd, you will be called cunning; if you are aloof, you will be called arrogant; if you are warmhearted, you will be called flirty. No matter how you do it, it's always not good enough and there is always something wrong. Fellow practitioners, we can choose not to listen and not to be influenced by others. Be the best of yourself, do your own thing, and let others say what they want!

附上“一屁打過江”的故事 宋朝大文豪蘇東坡,在江北瓜州擔任太守期間,經常和鎮江金山寺住持佛印禪師往來。蘇東坡曾經做了一首詩偈: 稽首天中天,毫光照大千; 八風吹不動,端坐紫金蓮。 這位蘇大學士對自己的詩偈相當自豪,於是命書僮趕快坐船,送去給佛印禪師鑑定。書僮遵照指示,乘著船搖搖晃晃地到江南,上了岸,便直抵金山寺呈給佛印禪師。 佛印禪師端詳了一會兒,一句話也沒說,只在紙上寫下兩個字後又叫書僮送回。書僮又坐上了船,一路搖回江北瓜州。蘇東坡見到書僮這麼快就回來,急急問道:「佛印禪師有講什麼話嗎?」言下的意思是,禪師可有稱讚什麼嗎? 書僮回答:「禪師沒有講什麼話。」 「啊!真是豈有此理,他沒有講話,你怎麼就回來了呢?」 書僮委屈地說:「話是沒有講,但有在紙上寫字。」 蘇東坡一聽:「趕快拿來看。」 打開一看上面寫「放屁」兩個字,蘇東坡頓時之間火冒三丈: 「這個老和尚,我平常那麼尊敬你,不稱讚我也就罷了,怎可以罵我放屁?」 心裡憤憤不平,又命書僮叫了船,準備到江南金山寺跟佛印禪師理論一番。 佛印禪師知道蘇東坡會來,老早便站在山門口等待。當他看到蘇東坡氣呼呼地走上來時,哈哈大笑地說:「學士,學士,您不是『八風吹不動』了嗎?怎麼一『屁』就打過江了呢?」 所謂「八風」,不是室外吹拂的東風、南風,而是指我們遇到的各種因緣,產生的八種境界,即「稱、譏、毀、譽、利、衰、苦、樂」。蘇東坡認為,自己的修養已經到了八風吹不動的程度,你佛印禪師為什麼還罵我「放屁」呢?一個人口裡經常說自己有修養、能明理,是沒有用的。所謂「說道一丈,不如行一尺」,修學佛法,要真實做到,否則千經萬論也只是「數他人寶」,不管用啊!

Su Dongpo was an avid student of Buddhist teachings. He was quick-witted and humorous; as a Zen Buddhism follower he was very serious and self-disciplined. He often discussed buddhism with his good friend, Zen Master Foyin. The two lived across the river from one another. One day, Su Dongpo felt inspired and wrote the following poem: 稽首天中天, 毫光照大千; 八風吹不動, 端坐紫金蓮。 I bow my head to the heaven within heaven, Hairline rays illuminating the universe, The eight winds cannot move me, Sitting still upon the purple golden lotus. The “eight winds (八風)” in the poem referred to praise (稱), ridicule (譏), honor (譽), disgrace (毀), gain (得), loss (失), pleasure (樂) and misery (苦) - interpersonal forces of the material world that drive and influence the hearts of men. Su Dongpo was saying that he has attained a higher level of spirituality, where these forces no longer affect him. Impressed by himself, Su Dongpo sent a servant to hand-carry this poem to Fo Yin. He was sure that his friend would be equally impressed. When Fo Yin read the poem, he immediately saw that it was both a tribute to the Buddha and a declaration of spiritual refinement. Smiling, the Zen Master wrote “fart” on the manuscript and had it returned to Su Dongpo. Su Dongpo was expecting compliments and a seal of approval. When he saw “fart” written on the manuscript, he was shocked . He burst into anger: “How dare he insult me like this? Why that lousy old monk! He’s got a lot of explaining to do!” Full of indignation, he rushed out of his house and ordered a boat to ferry him to the other shore as quickly as possible. He wanted to find Fo Yin and demand an apology. However, Fo Yin’s door closed. On the door was a piece of paper, for Su Dongpo. The paper had following two lines: 八風吹不動, 一屁彈過江。 The eight winds cannot move me, One fart blows me across the river.
