I’ve having this song’s 7’ vinyl single since 1985 by the fascination of these summer time girls . 😅
@FredPena-rd5cf8 ай бұрын
Saw them in 2014 at the cannery in Nashville. They were great! My ears rang for days. Dave kind of apologized for Summertime Girls admitting it was pop. But also underscoring how big it had been for them. For me Mean Streak was their peak record. 🤘😎
@jim2laneАй бұрын
Why would an artist feel the need to apologize for their biggest hit? Yeah, I get it that it was a bit outside their regular genre, but I don't ever recall Eric Clapton apologizing for I Shot The Sherrif, or Tesla apologizing for Signs
@FredPena-rd5cfАй бұрын
@@jim2lane well, he gave a little background to every song before they played it which was a treat! But he said something like that he knew that some die hard fans didn't like it. But he gave a story on it and said how it charted best, got them MTV exposure and so on. It really was more of an acknowledgment that it was moreso commercial than much of the rest of their stuff. It felt like a bit of a give in to that. So maybe 'apologize' wasnt the right word. I didn't suffer hearing it though i felt 'Down For The Count' wasnt my favorite record. They're preening around in the video and in the record in spandex looking a bit campy. Im a Mean Streak and Black Tiger record fan all the way. Oh and Clapton doing I Shot the Sheriff in the mid 70s isnt the same thing at all. As for Signs, not my favorite but Tesla doing a cover. As many do. I dislike it but... Its like the Firm doing Youve Lost That Lovin Feelin. Y&T going a tad commerical for MTV isnt the same thing to me as your examples of bands or perofrmers doing covers. Clapton did a variety of styles and cover songs. Summertime Gilrs wasnt a cover.
@jim2laneАй бұрын
@@FredPena-rd5cf In regards to Clapton, a rock artist having a huge hit with a Reggae song is a pretty similar analogy. Many of his die- hard fans could have been offended. And yeah, for Y&T, the video was a bit campy/cheesy. But the end result was a hit that brought in a huge number of fans that probably would never heard of them otherwise
@FredPena-rd5cfАй бұрын
@@jim2lane i disagree on Clapton. In that era even your concerts could be Bob Marley and Cream with Joan Baez opening. Covers were very in fashion back then. Hence Santanta making Black Magic his own. Y&T wasnt doing a cover. And it wasnt such a variance as going reggae. It was just a campy sellout for a hit to appease the record company. Clapton quit the Yardbirds over such a scenario. And perhaps short term fans did pick up on Summertime Girls and the band. But their record sales dwindeled after that.

As a woman, I was at my fittest and dare I say, hottest in the 80s because: 1. Aerobic dance classes were popping up everywhere, we were dropping baby fat. 2. We were all going to the gym and toning up. No more skinny-fat like our mothers. 3. Our food was still pure, wholesome, with no GMO's rBH, Roundup, Glyphosate, Arsenic, toxic metal poisoning, etc and you could eat chocolate pudding made with only 4 ingredients and still be healthy if you just watch your portions. 4. We all got our vitamins from the sunshine and fresh air and seabathing and good health came naturally.
