Well since I have lived in the United States since preteen, I think I like living here. It is multi cultural and you have the opportunities for many things. I have two jobs and I am single. Money management is a skill so I can live very comfortable. I do not need a visa to visit many places in this world. When I was living in New York City I just jumped on a bus, train or plane and go over to Canada where I love and have relatives there. I can and have been to Mexico and different Caribbean countries . This my experience and friends and family. Lots of the fellows come here and get caught up in drugs for illegal , fast money. One of the common reasons, these fellows do not want to go to colleges and universities, they want big, fancy cars and big houses fast. Many end up in prison and premature deaths.

Miss Deb and daughter, love your topic. Right now I'm gearing up to move back to Jamaica, I would like live a yaad like yesterday instead of here in the USA. I came to the State as a child, it was not my choice. I'm living in Florida after running away from the cold and every three months rent goes up, I have to visit 3 or more food stores just to get items on sale, so many persons are now homeless living on the street and their not crazy, a one bedroom cost $1700 and more, health insurance is high even when you're job is paying a portion, I knew people who can't afford insurance and is afraid to go to the hospital because of the hugh bill coming in the mail. I believe getting a home in Jamaica from my experience was easier, because in the USA getting a home has to do with your liability & how much credit you have + scores. Jamaica is a developing country and it has a lot to offer if you have a plan, I've realize some persons in Jamaica live above their needs especially when I watch their grocery hall, they purchase mostly imported items instead of local brands, while you in the USA we budget and sacrifice to live comfort even though you work two or three jobs for that comfort.

Ms. Deb's, this is a very good topic, i loved the mother daughter connection, you both did a good job. Well, i would say, life in the islands and abroad is about the same, years a back i would definitely say it was better in the United States, when i came up here, my husband and i was buying a pound of oxtail at $2:25 a pound and with often stuff on sale it would drop down to $1:25 a pound with no fat on the tail, now a pound of oxtail is $ 11:99 a pound with the all the fat on the tail, and mark you, they weight it frozen! So by the time you cut off the fat, you have nothing left, plus you only get one small tail for the pound, 😂😂😂😂 also rent is very expensive up here compared to home in Dominica where am from, also up here in Miami, according to where you live and work, you need some form of transportation, unless you want to hustle everyday to catch the bus because they have a schedule time, food like can stuff we use to get all like 5 or 8 cans for $1:00 is now $5 or $6 for that same can stuff 😂😂 so my dear, it's about the same, we just need to be thankful to God for his provision for our lives everyday cause he has been very good to all of us. Iove you Deb's and family. ❤❤❤😊

Hello Miss Deb, and your lovely daughter I’ve been watching for the longest, but I’ve not commented but this one is very important to me. I’ve been in the USA away from Jamaica for almost 42 years. I now retired building a house. Looking forward to moving back to Jamaica so for me it’s mainly looking forward to enjoy my retirement in Jamaica even though it’s concern me greatly about health care. God bless you both!

I prefer to be living abroad. Everything has risen in food, and housing everywhere abroad and in Jamaica. Abroad has agencies that can assist. USA has better healthcare system, also better opportunities. Each country has their own pros and cons but I prefer abroad. Honestly, it depends on the age group. Housing is very expensive here. We have a process for home buying and it all depends on the person’s credit here in USA to determine if they can get a loan to purchase a house. Within a few years is when Oxtails became very expensive here in the USA and Canada.

Jobs are not limited in America at all. Many people can start there own business and get grants to start it. I am not saying that getting a grant is easy but attainable. Many companies have taken the jobs to India, Phillipines and Mexico for profit. In America, they have to pay for vacations, pension, sick days etc etc.to employees but going overseas they pay employees cheap. But I have heard from Congresmen that those jobs are coming back to America. OK. Many teachers do real estate, on the side, Bankers/tellers do side jobs/hustles to save money for house, vacations.. Mortgage is easy to get if you have had a job for only two years, good credit score and show proof that you save your money consistently. As for food, fruits and veggies are inexpensive and many supermarket or grocery stores have discount on lots of products every so often or everyweek. Detergent, milk, cheese, turkey, chicken, ice cream, clothes , shoes, etc. Keep in mind we have to pay taxes on clothes and shoes in many states. No taxes on fruits and veggies but some states you pay taxes on food.

If I was living in Jamaica my entire backyard would be planted with vegetables and herbs. If no backyard then it would be bins and buckets and drums. I would find a way. America is the land of opportunity but you have to work hard. My husband and I came here with nothing. By the grace of God, I have a good job, own our own home, vehicles etc, put our kids through college.
