After this reveal, a past event completely changes. Back in the Hueco Mundo arc, Yamato sent Zaraki, Byakua, Mauri and Unonaha to finish the job and come back with Ichigo. What seemed like just sending 4 captains was actually Yamato sending 4 cold blooded killers to clean house.

There was actually a quick flashback during Nnoitora v Zaraki that showed Yamamoto taking Zaraki to school in the dojo. Yamamoto was loving it, super hyped to see Zaraki get stronger, but the pencil pushers got nervous and made him stop. Yamamoto listened because he believed in maintaining the order HE established. I imagine before Yamamoto reformed everything into the 13 Squads, the Soul Society was like Sengoku Era Japan. Soul Reaper business being handled by Daimyo, Lords and their families, directly instead of a centralized military. Perhaps the Squads were formed in direct response to the Quincies, the timeline would certainly support that.

He mentioned that the old man( Yama-Jii) was teached him zanjursu specifically kendo) for a day but Yama-Jii stopped after realizing how much of a freak of nature Kenpachi is. They fear they won't control him if he rebels against Soul Society on some Kaname Tosen shit..... which he probably would do if a member of one of the noble clans kidnapped Yachiru or some ish.

They aren't worried about Zaraki becoming like Tosen and rebelling against Soul Society...they worry about Zaraki going out of control with his barbarity and simply being unstoppable. He doesn't follow their rules when strong people are present, he does what he wants...and that terrifies Soul Society that he only abides by them out of boredom and lack of worthy adversaries.

Old yama ordering Unohana to stay in the squad 4 baracks during the fight takes on another level of meaning with this reveal. She is able to kill Zaraki who took out 3 Quincys easily, meaning anyone that isn't Yhwach is guaranteed to die if they fight her. It would explain why we never saw anyone invade squad 4. Also her true nature has been hinted at since the soul society arc. Shunsui and Ukitake were talking about the oldest captains and as soon as they were going to mention her age she appeared behind them and they were scared. The scene was played off as a joke but now knowing she was the most infamous criminal in history, that fear seems genuine and justified

The name Retsu itself means "Violent", also the Data Book released during the SS arc had her be the second strongest after Yamamoto and her specialty was Zenjutsu and not healing. Kubo planned this twist since the beginning of the series.

In the turn back the pendulum arc with the Vizords, its mention that the Kenpachi of that time was like number 9 or 10 and apparently was very lazy, not even showing up to meetings which even Kenny does. Its also mention a long time ago that Kenpachi got his position by challenging the then Kenpachi and captain of squad 11 to a one on one duel and killed him. According to Yoruichi to become a captain you must either have bankai and go through the exam by the head captain and 2 others, having been recommended for it by another current captain, or you must defeat the captain of a given squad in a death match. Its never outright said but it can be assumed that the latter method is a hold over from the og savage squad and Yamamoto never got rid of it.

They were "officially" Kenpachis because Unohana gave up that title when she joined 4th division. No one other than Yamamoto, and probably Shunsui and Ukitake knew. But I'm not even sure about Shunsui as he literally read from a book that she's the Kenpachi.

There's some other broken as hell OP Kenpachis throughout the years but I'm not gonna say much because that going into Light Novel spoiler territory. In total there's been 11 Kenpachi (Zaraki being the 11th one) we know of 3 in the manga/anime. They're Zaraki, Yachiru/Retsu & Kiganjo. We also know of 2 they're in the Light Novels. The others we don't know anything about or have seen them.

In the manga, Ichigo and Renji already met Nimaiya and started fighting the Asauchi before the Kenpachi fight began. They also ended at the same time. Zaraki and Unohana fought in Muken for about 3 whole days.

Fun fact: Back in... I think the Arrancar Arc (Manga) a databook was released with information about all the captains circa Soul Society Arc. This included things like likes, dislikes, specialties and also their Battle Stats: Offense, Defence, Mobility, Physical Strength, Intelligence and Kido, all out of 100 for a total score out of 600. The highest scores were Yamamota and Aizen with 560 each. The second place was Unohana with 540. Her listed speciality was *Swordfighting*, not healing. It was a while before anyone found out why.

zenkia boost applies in the show for all characters, there is another reason for unohanna statement about kenpachi death strength growing. most of of what you talked about was interesting but im suprised that at least adorkiable didnt catch what kenpachi said to unohanna when he called her the person he admired most and the new head captian stated her name when she entered the political courtroom/ nobles council area. remember kenpachi said he named his LT after the person he most admired back in the soul society arc way back. this isnt spioler what im about say but your suppose to realize that kenpachis LT was named after unohanna among the many other relizations this episode. love yalls reaction guys

I don't know why people think that being near death boosts all shinigamis. That's never been said about anyone, it's just Kenpachi. He subconsciously holds himself down to be able to fight on the edge and when he is near death he is forced to release a bit more of his power. That doesn't apply to any other shinigami

@16:55 not exactly. In the flashback Yama-Jii looks like mid to late 50's potentially 60's while Retsu(or Yachiru is she was known back then) look like mid 20's to early 30's. Present TYBW Yama-Jii before he died looks like in his 80's going on 90's while Retsu is looking reaching prime milf status. So anywhere in her 40's.

So it's not really commented on in the show but I think the time dilation between the living world and souls society is 2 to 1 so for every day in soul society 1 day passes In the living world (can't cite a source just saw it floating around reddit but the math kinda lines up) So a thousand years in soul society would put the last quincy invasion around the B.C.E/ A.D change over give or take. It also can help explain why soul society looks as old as it does

I actually didn't notice that when it showed the unohana letter and kenpachi eyepatch it kind of told you who would die because kenpachi left his eyepatch as resolve to win or die trying and unohana left a letter basically signifying she was going to die. I know this might not be what the author intended but in my opinion a letter with a will says that you know you're going to die more than an object with nothing on it.

i cant believe you all forgot that it was said multiple times that Kenny is 11th Kenpachi and he killed previous Kenpachi! She is the 1st Kenpachi,so...The story of BLEACH knows about 5 Kenpachi's and one of the strongest BANKAI belong to fan favourites 8th Kenpachi Soya Azashiro. The reason Shinsui is a better head captain than Yamamoto is tactical thinking and being decisive in the right situation no one besides him in the Gotei 13 deserves to the head captain after Yama,Byakuya is great but he isn't as sagacious as Shinsui and you'll also know how strong exactly the new head captain is after sometime just wait 🐐💀

Yeah, power aside its also a matter of experience. Realistically Ukitake makes the most sense intellectually, Unahana physically, but Shinsui has the best of both worlds. Byakuya would probably come after him in like a 100 years, or Shinji if he's still around too(and would even be considered by C46 given his hollow powers).

Don't forget in Soul Society arc Aizen wanted no smoke with Unohana even though it would've been a 3v1 and then he was happy again when she was trapped in hueco mundo and not going to be at the fight in karakura town

Its true about the ss arc but in the hm/fake karakura town arc its canonically stated he was only afraid of zaraki as apparently aizen knew the story behind him and thought zaraki would be able to kill him before he can fully fuse with the hogyoku.

There's actually been a total of 11 Kenpachi. While yes Unohana was the first, she gave up her title so other people eventually took on the name Kenpachi even tho she was still alive. Our Kenpachi is the 11th generation Kenpachi. Thanks to the light novel we know 5 out of the 11 Kenpachi.
