Someone told me this once: to understand Reiner and Bertholdt more, think of them like the pilots that bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. To some, the two of them are considered monsters that murdered hundreds or even thousands in cold blood. To others, they were heroes. But to the two of them, they’re just soldiers following orders, and now they have to live on with that as well as continue following orders.

@notAyoutuber it is less so a spoiler since I believe it is more clear for people who speak japanese that that was the intent behind that exchange, and very clear for those who read japanese since in the original manga chapter where this scene happens, reiner, bertholdt, and ymir use the japanese symbol for "monkey" while eren who doesn't know what a monkey is and doesnt know the symbol for it, has to sound out the word with different japanese symbols, showing his confusion. So while it might appear to be a spoiler, it is the intended interpretation which is lost in translation.

Lol of course Eren wouldn't be able to keep calm like he wanted to. As soon as he said he had to remain calm, I knew he wouldn't be able to do it, which was understandable honestly. Tensions were running high at this point, and old wounds reopened full force. Him verbally clashing against Reiner and Bertholdt was a given, and it was beautifully done. I felt that tension building and building until it finally snapped. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! Reiner has dissociative identity disorder (split personality). As seen, he basically has a soldier and warrior personality. I find it sad really. All that guilt and trauma of what he did broke him. He knew what he was doing was wrong, but he went through with it anyways. I think that says a lot about what their situation is like. As for Bertholdt, he looked so cynical and jaded. Even when Eren was screaming at them and calling them mass murderers, he looked like he was just taking it because he knew what Eren was saying was true. He may not be broken to the extent like Reiner is, but I think all of this is still affecting him in some way even if he doesn't outright show it.

Reiner and Bertholdt are a year older than Eren each, who is 16 at this point. 5 years ago is when Wall Maria was broken into... Reiner and Bertholdt were therefore 12 years old when they destroyed the wall. They are literally child soldiers who have spent a third of their lives fighting alongside "the enemy." Frankly I'm more surprised that Bertholdt and Annie haven't lost their shit just like Reiner after being in that deep.

This was an exciting reaction, glad I could be here somewhat early :D but damn. Reiner seems to have some sort of "Split Personality". Thats pretty crazy. But now that you think about it, imagine Bertholdt. He had to watch over Reiner so he didnt say anything about them being the ones that broke down the wall. He had to keep quiet with no one to turn to, not even his best friend. All he could do is watch while Reiner broke down in front of him because of their actions. He had to make sure they finished whatever it is that they are trying to accomplish while keeping all of theirs sins and weight on his shoulders. I mean, all he really wants is to go home, but not alone. He could have abandoned Reiner, but decided to stick with him. Even to the point of choosing to help him over going with his other fellow Warrior. Hope you guys can at least understand him, even if that means still hating him. The Warriors are all quite interesting and sad in my opinion.

It's easy to forget but, Reiner and Bertholdt are kids here just like everyone else is lmao. Eren is an emotional and volatile 15 year old, of course he's not gonna give a shit for what Reiner and Bertholdt had gone through considering what their actions have done to Eren personally. But I can't imagine committing atrocities at 16-17 and not feel anything about it, especially at so young a age. So i think Reiner's conflict of character was really well done.

The problem with Black Clover is it's takes a while to get good (or more like not annoying, aka time to get used to Asta's annoying voice), and while it's pretty ok shonen with likeable cast and good moments, and later on nicely animated fights it has nothing special. Sadly everything is guiding me to prediction that it will most likely go Fairy Tail route aka - nobody dying(ie most recent manga chapters, god it hurts how cliche and bad that "save" was), no stakes, bullshit power of friendship winning fights against enemies with 9000 higher power lvl and 14125412 times stronger and more flexible magic (demon who can use ridiculously strong magic just with words losing like a bitch) etc. They had very promising arc with elves taking over human mages and epic emperor (Julius?) vs light dude fight just for it to be concluded with "oh actually nobody died and like 2 people had some wounds, also emperor sacrifice was bs retcon he's here just without his wrinkles and with much less power till story needs him again). It's not bad, but there are many better & much shorter shows to watch.
