I love this new trend of taking tired old workhorses and giving them a new start and a new life. For me, this is what super yachting should be all about, exploring the globe in the ultimate luxury, not just posing in Monaco for a couple of weeks a year. If I had the money, this is what I'd do.

Super yachts have huge carbon footprints. They consume 20, 30, or more gallons per mile. They contribute to climate change and the destruction of the planet, stronger hurricanes, more drought, more wildfires, famine, malnourished and dying children, to name a few. I hope they all sink (and no one is injured).
@InsanitiesBrother2 жыл бұрын
@@bigmuscles250lbs Just do it better. No reason sails can't be used and updated to a truly modern standard with automatic rigging. You just maintain the pulleys and stuff in the same way you would previously maintain an engine. Not to mention solar panels for lower speed cruising.

Having seen an oilfield supply vessel in action in the South China Sea during a typhoon a few decades ago, I have enormous confidence in their stupendous abilities. Notable memories involve the Smit Lloyd 101 rearing out of the waves on full power to time her passing with a helicopter landing on the bucking deck of a barge (in case it went over the side). They’re great, even more so the latest supply vessels. But even when converted, it would be good to honour the sturdy pedigree by avoiding the term ‘yacht’ however fancy they are! Better to think of them as luxurious working boats - and be proud of their tough origins.

This channel is quickly starting to be a 'must watch' as soon as it pops up in my feed. Simply incredible. As a side-not, it is funny how Icon Yachts take an old ship and transform it into something modern and amazing. There is an auto company in LA called Icon as well, and they take old vehicles and re-imagine them into a more modern and luxurious experience. I can't afford to buy from either company, but I definitely do appreciate the expertise, vision and sheer artistry that goes into these 're-imaginings'.

I can see a collaboration with Damen shipyards on the horizon. Damen is known for pre-producing these sea gong vessels and at the moment they have building capacity available. The yachting trend is definitely gone in a direction where size is no longer leading, but what you can do with the vessel and this opens up the pre production of these yachts. Damen builds the hull and the technical installation, Icon (and others) finish it off. Let's see where we go in the near future, but so far a very interesting story.

I would be interested to understand how they are going to solve noise levels within the yacht and is the bridge remaining as is
@H.M.P.D2 жыл бұрын
The Yacht will have specific noise reduction measures. E.g. all machinery will be on floating mounts which eliminates major parts of the vibrations, further all generators will sit in their own sound proof casing to further reduce noise leves. Also all guest areas will be outfitted with floating floors and specifically noise insulated. The Bridge will stay mostly as is, mainly just some cosmetic touch ups. The aft console which was used for offshore operations will be removed and replaced with a nice seating area.

What a better way to build an explorer super yacht, by transforming an existing, proven, been there done that, commercial explorer yacht. Although I think the owner will not deliberately go into a storm with it, but good to know it can..hahaha. I think it's kinda like buying a 2022 land rover defender, off road in style and comfort. Interesting propulsion system, first time hearing it. Maybe if you can kindly share more info regarding the benefit of having that kind of propulsion instead of the conventional type (other than the dynamic positioning capability) like is it more fuel efficient? or maybe less maintenance?...
