Very useful thanks. Hitch & tape, or sew… that’s a great point from the pro’s.

I have me halyard mistakenly pulled up to the top of mast ! Any ideas how to get it down. My mate pulled it up and it’s stuck at top

ever try shrink wrap instead of tape. I wonder if it's flexible enough

I always use electric tape. Duct tape tends to leave a sticky residue.

Masking tape is even better, always use it in preference to electrical tape or duct tape for this kind of job (it has many, many other uses too).

No way will a rope halyard with a half hitch as per her sample pull through most mast sheaves. Always have a spliced loop put in your halyards which you can then tie a mousing cable to it. The big advantage of this is you get a central pull and it does not increase the diameter of the halyard.

Yeah dont do this. Its going to jam up in the mast and you're hosed. Sew the butt end of the old one to the new one.
