However Toby did say as I was typing this comment that this Cat started at $1.195M-it was minimalist in design features-aesthetics (I agree) though even still I can’t just flip flop back n forth on Cats, so I’ll double down, imo the Outremer 55 is where it’s at for me. @realpaddy5270
@realpaddy5270 2 жыл бұрын
Wow! The design and engineering that went into that boat is stunning. But, it is targeted at a small niche market: people who want to go fast with minimal luxuries. There are actually very few such people so these boats are entirely custom made. Another issue, which Toby brought up: They are high performance boats, most often very much beyond the capabilities of most people to handle. A few years ago, I looked at a Dazcat (which is in the same category as this Marsaudon). I backed off explaining to the seller that it was more boat than I was a sailor.
@AORD72
@AORD72 2 жыл бұрын
But it is not just about going fast, it is also about the ability to sail in light wind. Personally I hate motoring, the noise, smell and vibrations. I can't see how much harder they are to sail than any obese cat. You just reef earlier if you want too keep under control in heavy weather.

Here's my dream business plan. The shipyard is bought by Beneteau, keep the team and the CEO. They keep the bare bones base model for sailomasochists, but then throw away the numbered cushions; hide the pipes in the walls, add options of sound insulation, and proper lockers; replace those dildoes in the back with proper under-the-roof helm - et voila, we have an ideal Caribbean/Med cat. You snorkel and fish and bathe on one island and then quickly zip to the next. Who's with me?

@thomaschilcott
@thomaschilcott 2 жыл бұрын
Because these cats are essentially custom, you can have as much or as little of an interior fit-out as you'd like as long as you arrive somewhere within the safe design lightship range. Obviously with more joinery, creature comforts etc, the weight increases along with comfort and performance is diminished. Therefore, it's up to each owner to arrive at the specification that's right for them; clearly this particular hull is quite far towards the bare race boat end of that spectrum. That's one thing that I find so fascinating about fast cats!

I don't like the no compromise thing. If I am paying over $1 million for your boat and I want AC, a water maker and maybe a Gen set, and a second Genoa so be it. Find a way to install it and warn me that top speed will be reduced from 22 knots to 18 knots so I can be comfortable and happy. And I want a Expresso machine and refrigeration to allow me to cross the Atlantic ocean in 12 days without stopping for supplies. I'm sure he has fun, and he's a likeable enough guy, but this sort of puff piece may get clicks but it isn't what YM should be about. @angela1984a
@angela1984a Жыл бұрын
It has proper ventilation in the saloon. Do you need AC in the saloon then? If you put drapes at the feet of the beds, then all you need is a small AC that just cools the area you sleep in. This very solution was implemented on a larger HH the Wynns were guests on, and it worked perfectly. It's documented on their YT-channel "Gone with the Wynns". That way you can easily run those small ACs of a large enough lithium-ion battery bank if you have hydro generation and enough solar (think extra foldable panels that can be stored in lockers and put on the trampolines when at anchor).

How many of those have experienced a collision with floating debris? I haven't heard of a single one... And even if this ORC57 were to hit something - my understanding is that it has been designed to take such a hit without compromising the first watertight bulkhead. Don't get me wrong, I find Luxury is Counter prod7ctive for actual Cruising, as too many luxury boats, from what I've seen, rarely if ever leave Harbour or Marina without someone other than the owner Skippering it. However Comfort for Cruising is Critically important, and that includes things like Motion on the water, how waves are dealt with things like wedging yourself in safely while cooking - important point, electric cooking but no generator ? is this one of those silly electric Vehicle type boats with no backup for anything, other than high output alternators on the engines (at least it has those, some Nutters don't even have them on electric boats ), plus of course noise itself is extremely fatiguing if you add in the slamming that results from short vertical faced waves, that are so common in the Irish Sea for example - hours of beating into that, and you are really glad to get in to shelter and take an aspirin for the thumping headache. Frankly, if s speed addict, either buy a top fuel Dragster, or save a fortune by buying a decent motorbike, withbwhich you can easily humiliate Wimps with no bottle driving Porsche's. You seem unaware of how much power you can get from hydrogeneration on a catamaran of this size. There is probably hydrogeneration built in to the twin saildrives. Also: What boat for the same money will have better Motion on the the water than this? I can only think of one - the Rapido 60.

@@angela1984a Not unaware, but very wary of what cam behave as a fishing lure, and what that can attract that can be very nasty. I've been following what's been happening, with so called Orca "Attacks" on Boats, which normally amount to them knocking off, and therefore disabling the little Boat Speedvimpellors. Feel free to stick bigger Bait Spinners on your boat if you wish to. Me, I'm only having a speed impeller if at all, on a flip up transom mount to lift it clear of the water, if I bother having one at all. tbh, the only Multihull I've ever been tempted by, is a Trimaran. The closest I can be tempted, is with a well built proper Deck Saloon Monohull, but most suck in the handholds and wedge in safely ability. There are overwhelmingly good reasons, why around 70% of all boats in the World are Monohull ones, in addition to which, no Monohull has ever let me down, even when crewing for idiots, I could always rely on the boat (after a good look over it, of course). Happy Wakes and Great Destinations to you. Bob. 👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇲

@@AORD72 No, that's just Speed. There are more important things than that ut I admit the amount of fun there is to be had, from pulling alongside the Average Porsche driver, changing down to first gear on the motorbike, then go past on the Back wheel then hard accelerate into top gear, and see what speed they bottle out (it's usually about 90 mph they are bricking themselves). However, if you are Touring Europe on a Motorbike, other features become far more important than outright speed, the ability to travel over 1,000 miles in a Day, and arrive at your destination still fresh and grinning. The Same applies very much to Boats doesn't it ? Whizzing round the Cans, or Showing off around a Bay - different Stories I'm really not interested in tbh. But if you are, then best of luck to you, and I wish you every success (after a while though, those things tend to just become Sane old same old, and Boring, but relish them while they remain being fun). 👍🙂🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇲

Yeah, mostly a day-sailer. No conveniences at all. No washer dryer, limited refrigeration, few creature comforts, I'll pass on this one. To really enjoy the speed, one has to tolerate heavy seas that accompanies most high wind conditions. It can only be fun for so long!

The big advantage of a boat like this is that it can still sail at a perfectly good speed when almost all other sailboats have to motor... That and going along at very respectable speeds in conditions also known as 'Champagne Sailing'... A washer/dryer is an easy install. I'm 100% certain that it's an optional extra since Yachting World's walk-around on the ORC50(TS5) shows one installed(!)... And how difficult could it be adding another fridge when the boat is built at the factory?... Remember - they are only planning on building two of these each year...

Oh….it’s just a catamaran. I was expecting a real boat. Not a good design for long distance cruising. But fun to impress girls around the shallow bays.

How does a Sunreef sail? Like a brick? And how much diesel does a Sunreef burn when it can't sail in light wind conditions?...

This is the catamaran and not a monohull, so please stop putting the helm in the back of the boat. It is way pass due for a new and better idea to build a good catamaran !!! How about putting the helm forward for the better of every thing ???

Lots of catamarans have aft helms (including all racing ones)! It's horses for courses, some appreciate the direct steering, others prioritise the visibility

The cherry on top of the unfortunate interior design are the sheets that look like Hitler flags. Pay attention how loud it is in the video. Imagine it on the ocean.

What "Hitler flags"? Because there happens to be white, black and red colors aboard this boat? So what's your suggestion here? That we ban red as an interior accent color?
