The 51.1 still to this Day is one of the most innovative well designed sailboat I ve ever seen. The space, the layout, feeling like a 60+ feet yach

Not my cup of tea, but I'm bigger and older. 30 year old me would have had a different point of view. I like the honesty of the review. It's a value production boat, and proud of that. It will Island hop with the best.

We have a 38 we e had since new and I don’t see anything here that would make us want to switch. We like the separate shower in our 3 cabin. The arch is nice and we’ve upgraded the lighting and many detail make it much nicer inside

Thanks for a really thorough overview, as usual, Toby. It would be nice if more French boat makers were egalitarian and made more effort to make the lower end boats better designed or at least better styled inside. Yes, it costs a bit more to do good design, but given the higher number of boats built at the relative low end, those costs are spread out much more, and the incremental cost per boat is low. In other words cheap boats don't need to look cheap, and it doesn't cost much more to make them look better in terms of design, given the high production volume.

I wonder how you're supposed to have a sprayhood with the companionway opening just below the mainsheet traveler
@sebastiaanhoenderdos74587 ай бұрын
You're right, it's weird. It's not really a traveler just a dyneema bridle unfortunately most new mass production boats use this system. There's a 2023 one for sale right now which illustrates how the sprayhood would be situated but it starts right at the end of the companionway hatch (so not really practical getting in and out) and goes up from there in quite a steep angle. All the advertising is done without sprayhood, it's just added on as an afterthought seemingly, bit weird.

320,000 Euros for that cheap, no frills, mass production boat? No way!

The same! So many shortcuts. The hull is fine. But for a cruiser? Imagine living 247 in a 25k cardboard caravan. The boat is done within 3-5 extensive years. What a shame for such price

I like the 43.1

Isn't the biggest market for these models as charters in the Med? If so, the tiny hatches in the aft cabins really do not allow adequate ventilation.
@aphrodite32167 ай бұрын
Ok, so not to be critical but! I find the older "oceanis" models to be better built than most beneteau. This one however, seems not very ocean worthy... costal cruiser at best but id probably classify it as a lake boat...
@simulacrae7 ай бұрын
Have Beneteau started making boats for sailors yet or are they still only making day cruisers and boats for dock princesses to instagram from?

Is it possible to get these hulls to planing ?

Not for the true sailor. More wrong than right with it.

Charter boat designed and built by accountants who will take no responsibility for return on your investment.

No boat can be classed as an investment! Its a hole in the water that you feed everything you earn into. :D
