RegressMeNot Towing laws. In most states, with very few exceptions, the max beam allowed is 8'6" for towing.

it's worth mentioning that getting a permit to pull a 9' beam is super easy and usually under 100. per couple years

I've been trailering 9 ft boats for years and have never been stopped. Over 9 may be a problem for long distance through multi-able states.
