Hello Cain, the video clearly demonstrates what a superb and clean transmission you have from Elsham Top in Humberside to North East Manchester. Thanks for the contact.

Got my licence a month ago, started to do SOTA to mix radio in with my walking. Stumbled across this video and find I’ve copied you; same radio, dump bag and antenna! Spooky….. they say copying is a form of flattery. It’s a really effective outfit and even has room for my LiPo battery connected to the power socket as the internal battery doesn’t quite last a busy session.

Excellent; Great minds think alike! I hope that you enjoy thr rest of my short films and good luck with your SOTA activations.

Nice work with the 818 I’ve got the 817 brilliant little radios perfect for qrp portable working big thumbs up mate de M6dnu 73’s

Aren't these just SLIGHTLY more in output power than a Yaesu-VX 6R HT? - Basically not even close to 100W like the 857D? If so, what's the point of this over a simpler HT like a Yaesu VX 6R? Just that it's all band? - why not just get a modern 100w radio like the 857D?
@philkennedy3422 жыл бұрын
Yes the 818 is very slightly more powerful but not by much.. And yes you could use a handheld and qrp operating is low power normally less than 10 watts that’s the fascination of operating qrp portable….

thats great stuff ! love the bag/case for the 818 - I am still looking for a solid one and that one looks to fit the bill. Care to share marker/model please?
@moorlandmule93273 жыл бұрын
Hello, the bag is a Sondstrom camera bag which I picked up from PC World/Curry, I couldn't believe how lucky I was when I checked the dimensions. The Hand book for the FT818 is a similar size to the radio so I took the handbook as a guide for the dimensions. You can always just take the radio if you wish, I just found it easier to take the book.

Ah; Sorry about that, yes I am with you now. £8.99 from nicks kit; www.nicks-kit.co.uk/british-terrain-pattern-large-dump-pouch-11719-p.asp. You can choose what ever colour you want and it is full of pockets and will loop onto a belt, it is a really cheap and handy bit of kit. I have two, one in MTP and one in green which I use for storing water and food which you may spot on the waste strap of my Bergen if you look closely at the other videos.

It Sure is. Elsham top is by the junction of the M180 and A15 which is very close to the Humberside airport. I cant wait to get out again, and I shall make that my battery is fully charged!
@peterclifford83052 жыл бұрын
Not sure why you would go to so much effort and expense to work 2.5 watts VHF/UHF. You might as well use a 5-watt Baofeng UV-5R handheld with a reasonable antenna.
@moorlandmule93272 жыл бұрын
Hand helds get hot and the battery expires quite quickly.
